  1. So, if I can pry, @Jaay, what didn't you like about your h8? What do you like about your wouxon that the h8 failed you on? My new replaced h3 locked up on me yesterday as i had to keep it in my pocket as the belt clips suck period and I'm tired of it falling to the floor/ground with every movement. Couldn't find any help to unlock the kill lock with one unit only. So I hooked it up to my Odmaster online and it downloaded the new firmware without my acknowledgement and ruined this radio, like the firmware did to my original unit.. So now, even tho the radio is locked with s kill lock and no number for it in the manual, it is locked and with the new firmware installed, which locks the radio in transmit mode and won't stop unless you turn it off. I liked the conveniences of the small unit with both ham and gmrs. But now I am seeing more for sale and tested on youtube and they all look like they are manufactured in the same plant and just put different names on them. So, I am interested in hearing your thoughts on your h8 as that was going to be my next replacement, moving up to 10 watts as I can't reach the local repeaters where I am in missouri, south of st. louis. Have a great Thursday and thanks again for responding to my post.. Crazy WSDX855 To the others, I couldn't get od master to fully load up on the screen it was all grayed out, but it did upgrade the firmware which doesn't like older version radios. so now I am just waiting for the guys in china to get back to me today.. They do respond quickly, that I will say..
  2. Hey Y'all. Looking to connect with other owners so we can learn from each other and a start a 'family of friends' with the TID in common. I've had mine a year. Still trying to figure out all the functions and codes. I did a firmware update a few months ago and fried my unit.. TIDradio sent me a replacement unit.. That was nice of them. I just wish they would make a better belt clip that actually stays on the belt, suspender, pocket, etc. I create separate repeater channels and use the codes for tx and rx, yet still no reaching anyone. I'm in a town with a couple repeaters around, but no noise. Only when I'm close to a walmart or home depot will I hear it go off. I'm currently south of St. Louis, MO and Marion, IL. Later. 3. When I Upgraded my firmware, it changed the display screen, and, it messed up my unit. I turn it on and always push button 3 to turn on scanning of all channels. Once it starts scanning, it stops on a random channel and locks on the transmit button. The radio sits on transmit until the battery and unit get hot and i can feel it on my belt. I have to click the transmit button to break it loose, the scan starts back up and it doesn't get past 8 channels an does it again. Thought the battery was going to explode it was so hot. Had to take it apart and reach out to tid. Tid says that there is no way to revert to original firmware since I didn't record what version the radio came with. But, they said they will replace the radio. Just waiting to see if that happens..
  4. All right, just found this page, a year later. Never saw any notes about activity in here, or how to find this location till just now. Thanks for all the info, and fun sarcasm. I understand it all. I guess I paid for the wrong license first, my gmrs, thinking I could use it most places. Mostly I hear walmart, lowes, home depot and a few others in my travels. And still trying to learn this tid h3 on adding tone in n out. But am waiting for a replacement as the new hardware update ruined the radio. I will be stationary for awhile, in the st louis, jefferson county, mo area. So will try to get codes dded to new chabbels whenI receive my replacement h3 gmrs/ham radio. Happy Monday, first one in August.
  5. WSDX855 New license here. Just got a tid H3 ham/grms radio. Seems tho that the ham side has way more activity than gmrs. I do nothing all day but try to respond to someone that I hear, but figure they are on a repeater and can't hear me. No one is local so the radio in gmrs mode doesn't do much for me. Should have spent more time listening first. But, so far, definitely not impressed with the gmrs side of my radio as I can't talk to anybody in 5 states, (I travel). So I don't know what to do in gmrs. I'm not a business with 20 radios on site. I'm just a one man band looking to communicate with others. But find it really hard to do with gmrs. My radio scans all day and evening, (all 22 channels and all the repeaters) but nothing but a repeater noise or a good clear signal from someone over the ohio river in kentucky while I'm in lower indiana this month. When I get back to texas will try to see if anyone uses gmrs in the DFW metro area, as I work on my amateur license. I watch so many youtube channels, but none of them get into really programming a unit, purpose of having them, etc. There is good useful info, but nothing to get you on the air. My main issue is, when I put my radio in normal mode; amateur and gmrs, I have to figure out how to manually create channels with codes etc. In gmrs mode it programs the radio for all gmrs, weather and I think am/fm radio, but haven't figured out how to get those channels yet. Hoping to one day find a book that is easy to read to help with that. In the meantime, I'll just keep calling out CQ WSDX855, looking to talk with another. If you hear me (lower indiana, lower illinois, across the mountains of arkansas (little rock sucks to drive thru, the mountain routes are sooo much nicer, and the views!!!) across the middle and southeast part of Oklahoma and into north Texas, holler back.....
