  1. Ok, I'm not an expert by any means of marine frequency allocations. But is what they are doing legal?
  2. I'm not sure if this was brought up in this thread, but what is the repeater in question using for duplexers? You said something about interference with ship traffic. In my experience, with a repeater on a busy tower, you need a better set of cans. Your repeater should not be passing any frequencies not meant for the input of the repeater, period. You might be chasing this problem in the wrong direction.
  3. My favorites would be the Vertex Standard radios or Kenwood, something like the TK-380. The caveat is that you need the software and cabling to program them. I always found these lines as good if not better than a Motorola, and less expensive to buy and program. I have had some for 20+ years. Obviously we are talking about the used market here.
  4. Just my $.02 regarding a repeater setup. I ran a GMRS repeater for about 5 years. That was about 20 years ago. I would absolutely recommend a good duplexer, and a friend with a frequency analyzer who can tune the cans. Otherwise, your sensitivity will be junk IMO. No matter your antenna spacing. I still have 2 sets of Decibel duplexers hanging around, one 4 can and one 3 can. Let me know if your interested.
