Didn't think about that but I see no vents anywhere on the unit. I've got the same impedance speaker just 5 watt instead of 2. Maybe I'll rig up a computer cooling fan blowing on the heat sink and see what happens.
I was gonna replace it with a external speaker and wire it straight to the wires from the internal speaker and remove the internal speaker so it would help ventilate the radio, the tiny fan can't pull cool air in if it has no vents to allow that, it has no vent holes anywhere on it. Preventive maintenance .
If a receiver has a 2 watt audio output to the original speaker and it goes bad can it be replaced with a 5 watt speaker without hurting anything in the radio itself?

Thanks everyone for the responses the vehicle in question is a 1994 ford f-150 and I could kick myself in the hind end for not thinking about the voltage regulator, I am also a small engine mechanic and should have figured that one out. I reckon my old age is starting show. Again Thanks to everyone for the help, I'll be getting a voltage regulator tomorrow and putting it on. WSEK643
My new Btech UV-50x2 2nd generation radio after less than a week of use fried what I think is a transistor while I was talking to a friend one night sent Btech an e-mail and the new one is coming today. I checked the voltage on my truck battery while it was running and with headlights off and with headlights on I got 15.35 volts in the radio manual it said the tolerance was 15 % which is 2.7 volts is there something I can do to regulate the voltage coming from the battery to the power cable on the radio I don't want this radio to do the same thing. Thanks, WSEK643
I know a couple of people that have them and had no problems I'm hoping I just got a lemon. I've never seen a bad review on the radio I'll find out when the ne radio arrives.
Has anyone had any troubles such as the radio quits transmitting and a burnt smell emitting from it no smoke but still receives ? I had mine a day shy of a week and this happened I contacted support and they are sending me another radio. I haven't seen any negative reviews about the radio and had planned on getting another to use as a base station but now a little skeptical about it. If anyone knows if these radios have constant problems like this please let me know. Thanks,WSEK643
I have a Baofeng AR-5M I want to get a SW-102 swr meter,I will be checking the antennas that screw on to the radio as well as outside antennas,I know I need meter with so-239 connectors, my question is which one some say digital some analog. Is the radio digital or analog? Thanks
