Well finally got Morse Mania installed. Thanks again for the recommendation. Hope I engage with it as enthusiastically! Time will tell -
appreciated and understood. Already had some issues.... worth a look.

Have had limited success on ebay! Thanks for the site to check out

Thanks for the insight. You have found repair shops for older equipment? Bought oscilloscope off of ebay and a good buy.

Still haven't figured out how to fix my ipad... But ran across G4Fon. Windows based, very feature filled, you might want look up. Has input and tests. Haven't explored in depth yet, trying to mix M and A in with the E,T,I and 5. Hamwhisperer channel and site on the yt lessons. -
Wondering if there are any well respected and referenced used radio equipment sites that can be suggested? Looking for a less expensive route and also less landfill.

Straight Key to usb adapter and practice software
Elbowmac replied to Elbowmac's topic in Amateur Radio (Ham)
I myself am not currently concerned about the method. Just if I will TAKE the time to dedicate myself to learning and using it completely. Even at 5WPM....... That will be an accomplishment I've put off too long. IF !!!!! Watching the POTA rigs and the usage and it seems good practice and ability to reach out further. Silly question not entirely on point, is 1/2 wave end-fed wire antenna for 70cm a thing?? -

How long did it take you to become proficient? Have you used cw yourself? -
Straight Key to usb adapter and practice software

Apparently there are a couple of morse code "apps' have been approved by MS. I don't know anything about them either. Think I will try to get the CWSoft running and use the space bar initially. I am only on e,t,i and 5........ Thanks again! -

What I meant was more plug and play options. Have you ever checked the options that are available on the Microsoft, noticed some available when it told me not to install the CWSoft..... -

Thanks for the videos! Thought there would have been more available, oh well! Will have to see how much tinkering I care to do!!! -
Looking for a straight key to usb adapter or device and appropriate software for a Windows 11 computer. Started learning cw and it was strongly recommended that I also practice the code keying. I have a basic straight key which will at least for now be my preferred style. All assistance is appreciated. Haven't decided on a morse code learning course of action but found an easy YT lessons course. Nice and easy and basic.

Non electrical, but when someone that hunts snakes for fun has a son who disassembles a mechanical alarm clock and leaves it in the back floorboard of a car and it rings (no bell) sounds just like a rattlesnake. Immediate pull off the road...................... Tinkering is fun, in the right hands

Getting old isn't a sin, but it is dang inconvenient!
-
If it had worked I would have had to build a coherer. No leyden jars though. Old computer psu jury rigged
-
You know that I think I may like to tinker more than CW....??! I have had a old style key sitting in the pile daring me to attach it to something that would buzz. Now that I think of it, I have connected the key to a fly swatter sparking doohicky and when powered and sparking, I tried to see if I could hear the interference on an am radio. I may still have the parts.

Apology accepted but not required. The paraphrase of the comment was me shouting to the world to stop the arguing about stuff. Together we stand, divided we fall. People do put different amounts of importance differently. Maybe together we could come to a reasonable consensus, or not! A Happy Thanksgiving to you and to all that are not just looking forward to a black Friday Sale.

Thanks and no problem, but a distraction.. I am understanding the reasoning, but getting to cold start understand it is another thing to learn. The way you describe it makes it sound valuable to those that can appreciate it. Appreciate the help and information. Lost track of whose tagline said to the effect "Life is to short to argue with strangers on the internet", kudos to the author.

Thanks will look into it as time allows!!

Sorry to rile up a getting warm controversy by not understanding the system of questions used by this forum. I do not like or understand it and find it hard to follow. That does not have anything to do with my questions and is a bit of a pain that if it wasn't for the possible worth of the answers I would not continue. It seems that the proper expression of opinions could be done in much better ways, in all aspects of our life. I am not saying I do not appreciate the support for being a target of off target expression, thanks. Divide and conquer????

Yes Sir that is the way these radios work. Managed to successfully do that, but thought that there might be a way to do a non-standard offset. I recognize that possible work a-rounds are not worth the effort at my current stage of usage. Thanks

Thanks, now I have to figure out how I messed up my ipad so that it has a bad login and won't allow me to download......

I can agree with some reticence for finding a perceived easier way or technique, from an age group that did things "old school". Ways that seemed to serve older generations perfectly well and successfully. We went to the moon before the internet, cell phones, personal computers etc. I hope I conveyed the feeling somewhat to people who have grown up using some of the modern conveniences. How many users had to learn cursive writing, or scouring books for bits of information or the dewey decimal system? I feel that there seems to be less and less and the benefits may actually be a hindrance in the practice of acquiring knowledge. Why it had to be expressed on my post is questionable. Peace
