  1. I totally get where they’re coming from. Just a bummer that I purposely amassed four more KG-905’s, two more KG-935’s and four KG-805’s specifically for this trip. We are rolling deep with three generations on the same cruise.
  2. A whip mounted to the hood/fender will probably sit as high as a ghost antenna on the rack, but will have a more reliable ground plane. If you’re going through the trouble of a folding antenna or even a mag mount on the roof to accommodate being able to transport a kayak/canoe, twisting off a whip and putting a rain cap over it is way faster than navigating a mag mount with a wire. The kayak/canoe, is it directly bisecting the roof? Would drilling the roof above the passenger’s head be enough offset where you can still load the kayak and clear? Regarding transmitting with the antenna directly in front of your face. . . . The windshield is one heck of an insulator. Think about how strong the signal is when you transmit with a handheld inside the car with the windows rolled up versus standing outside.
  3. Good Day All, After lots of ambiguity surrounding whether radios were allowed on my upcoming cruise, I called MSC for clarification. Although it’s not one of the published prohibited items, two way radios of any sort are not allowed to be brought on board. My itinerary departs Brooklyn NY, stops at Port Canaveral FL, stops in Nassau Bahamas and returns to Brooklyn NY. I was informed that the App can be used to keep in touch with other cruisers without paying for WiFi. The App would allow for messages to be sent and received, but no voice calls.
  4. Simplex Testing in my suburban neighborhood yielded the following obervations: Wouxun KG-805G: Nagoya 771G was a smidgen better than stock and Nagoya 701G was the worst. Wouxun KG-905G and S88G: Nagoya 771G was the best, Nagoya 701G was close behind and stock was the worst. When I tested the 701 on the 805's first, I was ready to send them all back. But when I tested them on the 905's and the S88G, I discovered they served a purpose.
