Has anyone used windows 10 to program an Kenwood tk-8180. My windows 98 laptop now rests in peace, which is what I programmed my kenwoods with. I attempted to use windows 10 yesterday. No luck. Any sugestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Also tried to read from an Tk-8150 to no avail.

The Microwave Times is what I use at work every day. The cheaper one will work also, but I was more prone to mistakes with it. Always test the conductivity and be sure there is no cross conductivity, prior to installing your coax.

Jsouth. I would suggest you pick up a copy of the ARRL antenna handbook. It will give you a great insight to how your antenna works, and what you can do to improve both transmit and receive. It also will give you the knowledge you need to build your own antenna. Antenna for UHF 460-470Mhz can be easily made from material obtained at Homedepot,   less a few small items you will need to purchase online. The high Dbgain of a directional antenna, it is amazing what can be accomplished. Always remember in most cases the higher you get your antenna the better.

It may be possible, but very unlikely. Uhf is very line of sight and dose not bend as remotely well as HF. May have better luck with CB, it is HF. AT the distances (short) requires sharp angles of reflection, extreme concentration of energy, think parabolic array antenna. GOOD LUCK and have fun it will be a great learning experience. keep us posted.

With APRS there tend to be an astronomical amount of distortion of the packets. Approximately 1:5 packets are properly received. Allstar has very similar results but tends to be better.

There are several ways I have accomplished this on ham radio. I have made my own cables after watching this video on you tube,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhABubFZCQ4. This can be done with a free Zello or team  speak accounts. The radio must be on vox and the app must be on vox. Another way would be to purchase an Allstar hot spot and raspberry pie.
