The MXT400 (with software/cable) will allow you to setup split tones. There are also 7 blank channels (8-14) that can be programmed with GMRS legal channels. I've used a few of them to add duplicate repeater channels that have different tones as well as a simplex channel with a pl tone that my immediate family uses. I also like the fact I could rename the channels.

Some information in this old thread was based upon the old (pre April 2017) regulations. The new regulation wording allows simplex fixed location to fixed location operation on the 467 mains as long as the RF out of the radio antenna connector does not exceed 15 watts. The new Part 95 Fixed station regulations do not limit the type of antenna, antenna gain or ERP while using the 467 mains.
Refer to 95.1763 ( c) for the new operational content, which does not restrict fixed to fixed operations on the 467 mains - as well as 95.1767 (a ) (2) for power requirements of fixed stations. Note FCC Part 95 Definition: "Fixed station. A station at a fixed location that directly communicates with other fixed stations only."*** Fixed stations operating on the 467 mains are not limited to repeater access only under the new rules ***
Personally I don't know, but plan on looking at the rules again as it pertains to those frequencies.
*** UPDATE: After looking up 95.1763 © it appears the above quoted response from the other thread is inaccurate.

Sound like you want a radio that has group scan where you put the channels into a group you want to scan or scan some other group even all... The two radios I know who can do group scan is KG-1000g mobile or base config or HT KG-905G which I have and works so well.
If anyone knows of other radios that allows you to do grouping to add channels into a group to scan, I would like to know for knowledge.

My MXT90 actually makes it easy to add remove channels from the scan, but it's not repeater capable. The Kenwood TK-880's I have will allow you to do what you're talking about. My MXT400 with software will allow you to add/remove from scan. I've not tried it yet on my KG-805G's

Ok, I'm new, so pardon any silly questions. So you inquired about channel scan changes....meaning you were looking for the split tone capability, or what channel scan changes did you mean?
Sorry for the delayed response. I have several repeaters in my area and a simplex channel the family uses that I like to monitor. Rather than scan through all the channels I wanted to only scan CH 18, and the 3 or 4 repeater channels. That way I could leave my radio in scan mode and not have it stop on other channels I have no interest in monitoring.

has anyone had trouble using the DBR1 cable to connect with the MXT400. if so, any solutions?
Hopefully you found the solution to this already, but if not, you need to make sure you've selected the right COM port (Communication Setting) in the software. After connecting your cable to the radio and pc, click the icon in between the "Read from Radio" and the "Write to Radio" icons.

I'm not sure on the MXT 115, but my MXT90 can. I have to go to each channel and press,hold the scan button for a second or two. When I release the button the scan icon no longer appears on the display. When I scan frequencies it will jump those channels I've removed. Repeat the process to add channels back.
I've found this isn't possible on theMXT275. My MXT 275 won't even scan repeater channels after they've been enabled.
With the MXT400 it's capable, but only with the software. -
Just thought I'd pass along that according to Midland Radio Support they will be releasing the MXT500 50 watt micro mobile with split tone capability this year. I'm hoping they'll respond to my email about a more specific time frame.
Also when I inquired about making channel scan changes to the MXT400 they mentioned using the software, and provided me with a link that's only good for a week. If you need that link I suggest contacting their support. They also recommended using their DBR1 Dual Band Radio Programming Cable.

Realistically, if you don't have pl tones input on the simplex (15-22) channels, you'll hear any traffic coming from the repeaters as well, since the receive side of the repeater channels 15-22 is the same as their simplex counterpart.
Not exactly convenient to respond to something on that repeater, I admit, since when you come off scan it goes to whatever you were on prior to scanning

My MXT90 allows me to remove or add back channels to the scan. If I only want 15,19, 21 and 22 to scan I can remove all other channels and only scan those 4. I expected that ability on the newer midland micros but unfortunately that's not possible. I contact Midland and they suggested the pl tones work around for the 275. They also indicated I could do what I want on my MXT400, but that required software. I'm waiting to hear back from them on how to obtain the software.

I'm new to GMRS, but there are several repeaters in my area and have made contact with quite a few licensed users. I just created an excel spreadsheet. I mainly did it so that I could start recognizing and learning call signs. Basically it just has columns for names, call sign, location and short note to help me remember who's who. Being able to review the information I've been able to learn others call signs rather quickly.

I've enabled the repeater channels and setup a couple area repeaters, but noticed the repeater channels aren't scanned when using channel scan function.

Maybe that's why they don't mention the software on their site, and will only provide a temporary drop box link for customers to download the software.
