That antenna is hung from the top. Is your mast non conducting? If the antenna is against a conductive mast, it can cause problems. I only ask because I have seen this before.

I am interested in Mexico immediately but a list of countries (if any) that consider a US license legal would be good. Also are the radios legal?

Sounds like a sick radio. If the power supply is holding and you have a good test rig, I would be looking at a warranty return. I hate that you are having this trouble.

I have to ask. You are using a dummy load right? If you have a antennal problem that produces high SWR most modern radios reduce power to protect the final amp.

For the most part, I agree with most of the posts that UHF/VHF FM is technically similar to GMRS. The license will allow you sun to do far more then just UHF/VHF FM if he wants to get into it. When he gets his General license, he will be able to do HF. This is a whole different world. I suggest that you get involved with a local club. They should be happy to help.
Btech GMRS Pro illegal?
in FCC Rules Discussion
Posted
I noticed that the FCC regulations for GMRS under Digital Transitions state that "The antenna must be a non-removable integral part of the GMRS unit."
Since the Btech GMRS Pro is capable of location signaling and short messages and has a detachable antenna. Doesn't this make them illegal? I hope I am reading this wrong because these are popular radios.
