I also have older MX115s and pondered this, then just said the heck with them and bough two KG20g units.

Ok, so. Here is where I went with it all:
- KG XS20G
- Comet 2x4SR antenna
- Gamiviti fender mount antenna (could not make center of roof work for my use)
Over the weekend I got it all hooked up and running on my Land Cruiser 100. Metered it last night and got 1.80 SWR at 24.43 watts. I'm pretty happy with that!

I'll be utilizing a NEMO antenna connection thru a fender mount Z bracket, or at least planning to, and need some advice on how to protect the underside of the mount since it will be exposed. (this is because NEMO were designed for thru panel condition I presume) Anyone know of a weather proof cap or cover for NEMO in this application? Or would people advise ditching the NEMO?

Still researching..... Many thanks to all who have chimed in. Initially I'm considering a Comet 2x4SR NMO on a Gamiviti fender mount and see how it meets my needs/expectations. Also considering mounting the RTT slightly different so that I can get some roof space. When I finally commit to some configuration I'll post up.

I've done some searching but not a bunch of info out there, mostly "just put it on the roof". I know fender mount is far from ideal, and realize that I'm trying get best results from worst option, but with all the gear I'm planning for the roof on my Land Cruiser its not practical to roof mount antenna.
What have people done with success for fender placed GMRS antennas on SUV? Going to be running the new KG XS20G.
Advise, warnings, opinions, tips, rumors all welcome! TIA

Are there any Prepper-minded folks out here? SouthernPrepper1 had a video on YouTube to give us Mainers a chance to connect in his comments section. I have tried, but we Mainers are a skeptical bunch and aren't prone to "join in" easily. I have been recently started trying to connect with Preppers on GMRS and Ham. No contact yet. GMRS, with the repeaters out there, is perfect for Preppers.
I concur, Mainers are like cats, takes a long while to warm up to strangers. (ask me how I know....) Not finding any GMRS repeaters up there, nada.... There are some for MURS along the Golden Road but thats about it.

I spend a lot of time each year up no'th in the great state of Maine, from Rangeley to Presque Isle exploring and getting my monies worth out of my hammock. Once one gets thru the gates of the NMW, other than Ham, there is nothing. Would like to know of, and use, repeaters in the Jackman, Greenville, Brownsville, Ashland range. TIA
Intermittent fuzzy noise on kg-xs20g

I know this help request may sound like a question for Tom & Ray on car talk, but here we go....
I just installed a new kg-xs20g in my Land Cruiser. Running comet 39" 2x4 antenna and getting 1.8SWR. And just got back from 1000 miles of gravel travel and camping in northern Maine with 7 other trucks. While on the trip, I consistently I was getting blasts of fuzzy signal that would start after an hour of the radio being on. When I mean fuzzy it sounded like very heavy rain hitting a sidewalk or white noise, sort of like a UHF TV channel after the station shut down for the night (for those of you who are old enough to remember). When the blast of said "fuzzy" would start I could not receive anyone else's transmissions. But I could send/transmit no problem. Also, after keying up the mic the fuzzy would go away for about 30 seconds. And, If I power cycled the kg-xs20g on/off the fuzzy would stay away for 60ish minutes. (that was my work around for the 6 day trip). This was on channels 15 thru 22
All ideas, rumors, myths, opinions welcome. I'm also open to exorcism if anyone has luck with that option
