  1. This indeed depends upon your specific needs and terrain, as everything else - "It depends." For example, I live in a very hilly and forested area with no clear line of site to anything, unlike Randy (Notarubicon) who has excellent terrain for line-of-site signals. I currently use a Nagoya NA-771G with my 10-watt Retevis 10-watt RA-89 programmed only for GMRS [Sad Hams go away] and it does "OK" but I am looking for something with better performance (perhaps taller with more gain) for better signals to repeaters about 25 miles away.
  2. This is what I am pondering too. I live between two repeaters and if a 3rd could be installed that overlapped the first two our coverage area would be expanded. I just don't know how the configuration would happen, especially if the two existing repeaters are using different frequencies. I'm not sure if this is possible.
