[Newbie wanting to connect to a repeater, needing a little help to get started.]

I have the same radios.  The Baofeng Uv-9g and MXT 275.   
 

i’d love to hear the specifics on the UV-9g.  Ive added all the proper tones, requested access to the repeater.   Yet I can see the radio receiving traffic, but can’t hear anything   I tried to transmit, but did not get an acknowledgment   The repeater is on a mountain, and I was line of sight at a few thousand feet lower.  I can monitor the traffic online, and know people are talking, but the traffic is not coming through on my handheld
