  1. If you are talking Los Angeles as in LA, you should be able to log into a small handful.. I can hit 7 different repeaters driving N/E from Fontana to San Clarita.. From San Clarita north to Lone Pine i can hit the repeater on El Paso. You might have to fish the tones on aa couple, if there is traffic. I never had an issue doing so.. I think 3 of them including El Paso are open..
  2. Funny.. All these people that brag of blocking me, seep through the cracks.. They must love me.. Way to go SteveShannon..
  3. programing is the easy part, getting the DMR info is more work..
  4. What the hell,, i thought you blocked me.. So much for that,, now i gotta put up with you... They're outlaws and not very smart ones..
  5. Randy had little to do with alerting the FCC about these outlaw linkers. Myself and many i know sent letters to the FCC over a year ago, well before Randy came out with his factorial video on the subject.. In fact years before Randy's video, this forum was full of discussions on these outlaw linkers.. The fact of the mater remains, GMRS does not have the bandwidth available to permit Linking much less the proven expertise to manage and operate them.. As in the 'SADHAM' world, repeaters take a lot of coordinating and responsibility to run them, something lacking tremendous in the GMRS (Family Radio Service)... I doubt seriously the FCC would ever consider allowing Linking in the this band simply because the lack of bandwidth. But who know's,, perhaps if they get someone like George Soros involved, the linkers might find a way to legalize linking and fast track it through the FCC.. Hell, isn't that worth a try?
  6. outlaw nodes...
  7. there is no poupose for a Node in GMRS
  8. Its the way MyGMRS has it set up.. If it's listed as an open system, use it. I've never once had a problem doing so. If the owner dosent want you using their repeater, they'll let you know.
  9. Except the outlaws are still gonna do it until the sheriff comes in town
  10. I use DuraComm because they offer a wide variety of mounting types and their supplys are stable. The last Maxon repeater i built i used their chassis mount supply
  11. Yup,,,,,, Outlaws don't give a $hit.. They'll steal your money and rape your sister.
  12. The out-laws are not that smart
  13. Those Linkers guys are down right out-laws.
  14. i'm still laughing.. Now you know why the linkers almost turned GMRS into a frantic zoo..
  15. i guess if you are beyond 500' it would be legally to flash your high beams but if you are within, it would be against the law according to vehicle code 24409
  16. just got back from Los Angeles and GMRS is defiantly not dying. The zoo is alive and well, as always
  17. Many states, especially back east, it is illeagle to flash your headlights at approaching traffic. Even Calif.. And cops are eager to write tickets for it.
  18. Two Wouxun KG1000 radios, a duplexer and an antenna.. https://www.buytwowayradios.com/accessories/by-radio-brand/maxon.html They will give you all the support you need and provide a bunch of 'how to videos to set up the KG1000's for repeater.. Bridgecoms are about $1000 bucks overpriced. Honestly though,,, two Maxons 8402A radios are just as easy setting up as the Wouxuns and they are by far a better radio.. Having no tech knowledge will be a problems no matter what set up you go with.. I would look for someone to help you before you dive into it..
  19. A few years back I had a homemade UHF J-pole mounted in a tree and had very good results. Don’t hesitate giving one a try, Supper easy to build.
  20. Maxon 8402A is pretty decent and also a commercial radio at a decent price. Hytera HM782 is a commercial radio that will work HAM/GMRS in both analog and digital. Both radios are programable, have fantastic receive ends and transmit 40-50 watts. Kenwood is another choice but i'm not familiar with their radios.. Programing the Hytera and Maxon radios are both a cat walk. Very easy learning curve..
  21. you can save a ton of money and buy two Maxon 8402A radios, the repeater jumper cable and programing software. And of course you'll need a Duplexer. These Maxon radios are the exact radios used in the Bridgecom repeater. I use these radios for my repeater and i talk 70-80 miles.. I didn't use the repeater jumper as i installed and ICS Repeater controller using Open Repeater (open source software that works with an ICS controller) Or you can go with the two Wouxuns KG1000 radios.. The Maxons would still be a little cheaper. The programming software is fairly simple to use.. RFWiz.com and i believe buytwowayradios.com are Maxon Dealers.
  22. i once farted on the radio, someone told me they were gong to call the FCC on me.. I'm still here and waiting..
  23. 45’ of 400.
  24. Many years ago i tried a UHF antenna in an attic of a two story house and never had any luck with that setup.. Always puzzling because talking on portables from the garage down stairs worked much better.. There are lots of things in an attic that hampers single quality.. i.e. HVAC vents, wiring, vents etc.. I ended up putting the antenna in a tree next to the garage and had pretty good results.. Flag poles work well too if you can get away putting one up.. Experiment.
