As Sshannon said I too experienced desense with my KG1000 repeater build, but after separating the radios and adding some shielding i was getting 15+ miles of farz. But switching to a VXR7000 repeater more than doubled my farz even though it outputs about half the power.
VXR7000- Are those discontinued? Just pick one up second hand, I suppose.

The OP mentioned using a repeater channel to talk to the other radio but has no repeater nearby. Also, the display shows a plus sign. That is because you are transmitting on 467.xxx mhz but receiving on 462.xxx mhz. You can not talk to your other radio on simplex using a repeater channel by default regardless of ctcss tones/codes. Switch to a simplex channel and try again with codes.
I had the same thought… I believe it may be one of the DIY preset channels, (the “+” sign is a dead giveaway…)

What about converting a directtv dish into a VHF/UHF antenna? Decent project:

Easy, just use BNC connectors for quick swaps between HT antennas, the mobile antenna in your vehicle, and the mounted antenna at home! No more “stress” on those SMA connectors…

yes, they are dbi gain antennas, improved performance from the stock antennas they ship with.

Picked these up:

I aways use BNC connectors for quick change and use in the car with a magnetic base...

Sounds like they synchronized the clock.
Is that Radioddity gs-5b a new release?
Looks like an interesting HT: bluetooth programming, pc and Smartphone, too.
Yes, I noticed the time is now correct too...
Picked up the GS-5b on amazon on a flash deal as a SHTF HT back in December- the bluetooth connect to a smart phone is quick and easy to make an adjustment to the radio programming away from a computer. I also picked up a set of signal sticks for my three radios- for a good cause too!

Curious as to this as well... I have noticed the "time" is about 10 minutes fast on the announcement...

About 8 years ago, I picked up my first three pack of Motorola T200 GMRS blister-pack for simple hiking, caravan trips, and emergency preparedness. I upgraded to the Motorola T480 with NOAA, FM Radio, always plugged in (with a light for power outages!) next to my bed... then after I received my FCC license this year, I have added a pair of Radioditty gm-30s, with a Radioditty gs-5b as a SHTF ham radio... next will be a mobile/base station, like the Radioddity DB-20G... down the rabbit hole is right!
