Does anybody know of any use of dPMR, not to be confused with DMR? As a note dPMR has the same on-air modulation as NXDN, but the digital protocol is totally different. There is a “license free version” dDPMR446, but that’s a European thing. Anyone messed around with some dPMR digital radios? Note this is NOT DMR. Specifically I'm looking at what it takes to program one to intra-operate with the EU's license free dPMR446 service running 0.5 watt radios. The later is the one I'm interested in setting up a zone for dPMR446. This is an off beat subject. I've researched this on different occasions and can't find and real data. Apparently there are several different modes in use in the EU, European Union, for their FRS like service, PMR446. There is narrow band FM, Tier 1 DMR and dPMR which is very similar to NXDN. What I was trying to find out which one seems to be the more popular digital mode in use. These modes also appear to be used for commercial radio service as well at higher power. I'm not aware of any dPMR mode radios being used in the US for commercial applications. PMR446 White Paper.pdf

I've read about there being range limitations when using TDMA digital modes, like DMR, due to clock drift in the base and mobile stations. The issue seems to be the slot timing verses distance and length of transmissions. I've seen comments where some have gone to FDMA type modes to avoid this issue.

It is unclear if the FCC would consider permitting any digital voice modes in the GMRS in the near future, particularly since they just released new rules in 2017. If they did consider this, should they permit a particular mode, such as P25, dPMR, DMR, NXDN, (other?), some, or all? Should it be limited to simplex/direct mode, or should repeaters be included?
