rjyokum Posted November 8, 2017 Report Posted November 8, 2017 Hey folks.....just getting into the GMRS world. I actually jumped in when we had a threat of a major hurricane but who cares about why :-). I've got 4 hand held units and a nice Midland mobile on a power supply and small antenna. I've been scanning the channels and there doesn't seem to be much activity in this area....Yorktown to be exact. I've also applied and re applied to some repeater owners in the state and have heard nothing in return. Wouldn't mind setting up a repeater if it is something that would be used. Anyhow...look forward to hearing from everyone. Quote
WQYC236 Posted November 8, 2017 Report Posted November 8, 2017 Hello and welcome to the GMRS world and the web site. I'm in Castleton, VA about 55 miles from DC and there isn't much traffic in this area either. If I go into Culpeper or Warrenton, two small towns near me, I hear more traffic but out here it's pretty quite most of the time. I scan ch 1-7 and 15-22, plus about 8 repeaters in my area. Looks like you are a long way from everywhere down. Just for fun I could drive up to a high point on Skyline Drive, the mountain ridge about 134 miles NW of you and we could see if we could talk.
