In my pursuit of a good mobile radio with all controls in the handset, I recently bought an Abbree AR-7600 dual-band mobile radio for my truck. I’ve used an Anysecu WP9900, and although its ability to transmit and receive is just fine, the overall build quality is lacking. For example, before long, it developed a quirk such that it won’t turn off. The power is on a relay and is cut when I turn off the key, so it’s not a major thing, but it’s an indicator of poor quality. It’s also difficult to change anything, including the volume, on the fly. When I saw the Abbree, I decided to give it a try.

Before you tell me the VGC VR-N7600 is a better radio, yes, it probably is but (1) several months ago when I bought the Abbree, I didn’t know the VGC existed, and (2) it’s almost three times the price of the Abbree, and I’m not willing to spend that much on a radio I don’t use a lot and which very well may eventually be crushed by something I put in the floorboard of the truck. I probably wouldn’t have bought the VGC even if I knew about it.

With that out of the way...I bought the Abbree for $135 from AliExpress, which I thought was reasonable for my purpose. I’ve now used it for 2 months and these are my observations:

1) It’s not CHIRP-compatible. The CPS did not come with the radio and was very difficult to find, but I did eventually chase it down. Annoying, but not a deal-breaker. As far as I could determine, there’s no way to batch-import a codeplug from some other type of file, (.dat or .csv) so I had to build it from scratch, one line at a time. Again, not catastrophic, but not ideal. When you first open the CPS, it’s in Chinese. You have to open “Settings” and change it, but the word “English” is in Chinese. It's the middle of the three choices. You’re welcome. It comes with a USB-A to USB-C cable and you program it through a USB-C port in the handset, which is quite convenient for a radio that lives under the seat. There’s a USB-A outlet on the radio body, but it just provides power for a small device or phone charger.

3) It has two zones of 250 channels each and there’s no capability to scan both zones at once. You can scan zone A or zone B, but that’s it. In dual watch mode, you can scan one zone while monitoring a single channel/frequency on the other. That works okay for my purposes, but YMMV. You can select dual or single watch (called "dual work" in the menu), from the handset, but you can’t switch between zones in the single work mode. You have to go back to dual work, switch from A to B (or vice-versa) and then go back to single work mode. The display is in color and easy to read, but options for changing it are limited. You can choose day or night mode but there’s no way to change the color or the font. I don’t care, but I mention it in case you do. It has dual PTTs which you can enable or disable from the keypad or the software. In single work mode, only the upper one is enabled.

4) As for performance...well, there’s not much to say one way or the other. It does output a legit 30 watts on high, which is refreshing for an inexpensive Chinese radio. I could hit all my usual repeaters and got “loud and clear” signal reports. Not perceptibly different in that regard from the AnyTone AT-5888UVIII in my car. Solid, certainly acceptable, no complaint. It has a speaker in the radio body and one in the handset and they’re both enabled all the time. It’s definitely loud enough to be heard over the noise in the cab of my truck and is quickly and easily adjusted with up/down arrows on the handset.

Summary: It’s plain, solid, and not very expensive. If that’s all you’re looking for and you want controls in the handset, it might work for you.

One of my RV friends has one. The radio seems pretty good, it sounds good on the road.  His only complaint, took about 4 weeks to get it.   Not sure but it think he got from AliEpress

Same here. Amazon doesn't have it.

The receive audio is surprisingly good for a speaker/mic.

Thanks @WRTC928 this is good information to know.  I too am interested in a radio with all the controls in the mic.  I tried the QYT KT-9900 which, I think, is basically the same as the Anysecu WP9900.   Meh....  It was okay, but I ended up returning it, in favor of searching for something with a better build quality and duty cycle.  Some of those mini radios seem like an overpowered HT on a bigger heat sink.  Still, when I keyed up for more than about 15 seconds the fan kicked on in a desperate attempt to keep it cool.  It was not thermally stable.  Also, the QYT was ham locked and if possible, I'd like to find an open/unlocked dual band unit with mic controls.

I will be interested to hear your impression of the Abbree AR-7600 after you have had it and used it for a while longer.

Thanks again!
