I'm a newcomer to radios other than some limited CB time in the 70's and 80's and want to get setup with a radio that can cover both the GMRS and MURS frequencies. I realize that it isn't quite kosher. In that regard my neighbor has offered a Wouxun KG-UV899 to me for $50. I've researched and it only covers the 2M and 70CM bands. Some foreign models cover the GMRS and MURS bands. Is there a way to expand the frequency? I've seen the way that the Yaesu FT-65R can be programmed to cover the GMRS and MURS bands.
I've looked at the Tera TR-505 by Powerwerx which can cover both bands and it is a rehashed Wouxun.
