WQHU859 Posted April 11, 2014 Report Posted April 11, 2014 Anyone near Savannah, GA? FCC is only showing three active GMRS members to include myself in the area. Also, are there any HAM repeater sites that are willing to allow a GMRS repeater to tag along? I see that I have a repeater that is way past the ranges of my radios. Logan5 1 Quote
PastorGary Posted April 17, 2014 Report Posted April 17, 2014 I'll bump up this thread for viewers - but, if my info is correct, we have very few registered members from the area in question. You may wish to contact one of the Administrators located at the web link below for regional info that is not yet available from our own membership. LINK >>> http://www.northgeorgiagmrs.com/ Quote

In my 12 hour span so far I have not heard anyone near RH. I wonder if it is still viable for a local HAM to host a Savannah repeater. Quote

It seams you may have had incorrect expectations of gmrs. Gmrs from its inception, has been and still is a bring your own friends/family type of service while doing an activity. It is designed for friends and family to talk while hiking, hunting, kayaking, fishing off roading,…….the list goes on. It really is not for finding random strangers on repeaters. If that’s your thing HAM radio is the radio service for you. HAM is the activity. if you REALLY want to meet strangers on gmrs and you have no local repeaters the 1st steps I would recommend would be check the fcc web site and see how many licensors are in your area. If there are many the next step would be to meet up with a few and split the cost of a repeater and the site lease to get a repeat up and running. Then advertise here and other web sites. You can be the one to change your situation if you so choose. Quote
