Guest Brian Roe
Good afternoon, I recently dig out four Motorola T5950s I used to use snowboarding as a kid. I have been researching gmrs and started wondering, do I need a license to be using these Motorolas?
gman1971
Looks like its an FRS radio. No license required to operate in FRS.
Guest d0221
The T5950 is a GMRS radio with compatibilty on the lower power FRS channels as well. To transmit on the GMRS channels you must have an FCC operator license. The license does not require any testing, but costs $35 for your family for 10 years. (price effective as of May 2022)
OffRoaderX
The T5950 appears to be a (grandfathered) FRS radio, and you do not need a license to transmit on any channels with this radio. generalpain
