WSAA635 Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 I have the local DPS channels programed into my radio to monitor and I also have an app called FlightRadar24 on my phone and sometimes I can catch a Police Helio on FR24 and hear the radio traffic on my radio. It's pretty cool to "see" the helicopter AND hear what there doing. If you get bored give it a try sometime. WRHS218 1 Quote
WRHS218 Posted January 11 Report Posted January 11 Unfortunately, during wildfire activities in my area I use the FlightRadar24 app while listening to CALFire Air to Ground frequencies. I can hear the command aircraft directing tankers and helicopters making their drops. Last September I sat in my front yard and watched and listened to two tankers and two helicopters containing a fire 1 mile from me across a canyon. Due to the critical nature of the activity I can't call it fun but it was very interesting. Those pilots are amazing. They sounded very calm as they fly low and slow that close to the side of a mountain. WRZV282 1 Quote
WSAA635 Posted January 11 Author Report Posted January 11 My wife and I have used FR24 to watch the flights of our kids and grandkids fly in. We've actually followed the radar to the point where we can go outside and see the plane fly by. WRHS218 1 Quote
