Newbie question

I have just joined this group and I am learning so bear with me. I just bought a BTECH V2 GMRS radio and it has pre programmed channels and repeaters. My question do the repeaters already have the tones or do I add them? I can hear repeaters but maybe I am too far away to hit them.

Every repeater has different tones.  You would need to get permission from the repeater owner and then he will give you the tones for that particular repeater.  Then you go in and program the channel for that particular repeater.
