Hey all I think I have my radio setup correctly but I don’t seem to be able to transmit, I have a tidradio td-h3, I programmed the Thompson station repeater into it and heard a few people but no one could hear me, any advice?

When you attempt to transmit, do you hear the repeater "squelch tail" (signal without modulation) for a few seconds after you release the PTT button?

no i hear nothing when pressing transmit

What mode is your TD-H3 in (GMRS, HAM, Unlocked)? Do you have your repeater channel offsets setup properly?

it is gmrs and yes i am sure, if i use the default channels it seems to work but if i use one i program myself it doesnt seem to work for some reason

Interesting. I actually heard somebody on the Gallatin repeater this afternoon expressing that they were having the same issue. Was that you? I can't recall the call sign of the person that was expressing that issue.

I'll say this, I have a couple of h3's and a couple of h8's (and ive programmed several of both for other people), can I have had 1 lemon. It would receive wouldn't transmit, the programming wouldn't stick, and a few other weird issues.

So my first bit of advice to you would be order a new one and see if everything works as it should. If it does, then you simply just had a lemon.

My second bit of advice would be to unlock it. That's the way I use all of my h3 and H8 radios. See if things work right once the restrictions of GMRS mode are gone.

Wanted to update this, I have unlocked my H3 and programmed a few repeaters into it and can receive but not transmit, this thing is a dud and I plan to get something else, what that will be I don’t know yet, but thanks for the help so far

Hey there @WRUC846. Yeah I have to say ...... i own several tid radios. A couple of h3's. An h3 plus. A few h8's. I HAVE had a dud radio that did the exact thing you described. It would receive but no matter what i did, it would NOT transmit. Maybe you could order a new one on amazon and then return that "new one" because it didn't work. wink wink.

i've had great luck with all but one dud from Tid Radio, personally. But the choice is yours, of course. What radio and/or brand ya looking at instead?

honestly not sure as i am still new to gmrs and these kind of radios

well again -- except for one dud -- i've had great luck with the tidradio brand. Other than that, you could check out baeofeng, radtel, retevis, or so many other brands. If you want SPECIFIC radio recommendations, then please let us know what kind of criteria you're looking for, and we'll be able to advise you from a more informed perspective.

Excellent. I can't hit that repeater from where I am, but I know we have several people that use it. @WSIY431 and @TheMeatTrapper I think use it here from our group. But let us know here if you can make contact with them or anyone else.

so i just checkked it again and someone said 15 days ago they couldnt reach it and mygmrs is telling me the closest one to me is in white house tn but that seems far away from me in adams tn, i also cannot get any programming software working with this radio, its either not listed or the software crashes when trying to do a handshake

Have you tried the Software from Baofeng itself? https://www.baofengradio.com/pages/download

yes i did and it doesnt list this one only the uv-5g pro

I'd do a quick program file and see if it'll connect, read, and write just using the uv-5g pro selection (if you haven't already tried that).

i did try that and it comes up with aan error saying it reads as a uv-5g and to select the correct model

EDIT i should have better read the error, it was showing as a different brand, switched to that brand (radioddity) and found my model and i am now able to program

Copy that bud. Well glad you're able to program with the OEM software for now. I'm monitoring gallatin 650 and brentwood 600 right now if you're around to test.

Had to step away from the radio for a few. I'll be monitoring that frequency again at about 9pm for about an hour. I'll call out for you there at about 9pm.
