  1. So I was browsing the internet and for giggles I started looking into what it would take to link two repeaters [between my house and my fathers.] I came across a product from Dingotel that builds a simple bridge between two radios/repeaters using their VoIP server. I found it interesting and for the price of finding used devices on the net figured I would give it a try. There is one catch though, Dingotel went out of business in 2008. To my knowledge their servers are no longer online. Information about the company and product can be found here: https://web.archive.org/web/20070711174046/http://www.dingotel.com/2way/index.asp From what I can tell, the parts are nothing more than a USB sound card with an RX/TX adapter that goes into the mic port. Im not sure how well or if it even worked, though there seems to be a few posts in the past giving it good reviews. I would like to know if anyone has any experience with this product. Likewise I would like to know which VoIP/RoIP service would support it if any or if at this stage it would be a waste of time and effort.

I used GMRS rather extensively during the Thomas Fire to provide evacuation information during the overnight power outage; and collect power, traffic, and fire status from residents and motorists. Cell service was unavailable that entire night, and with no power or cell phones, some residents dusted off their FRS radios and hopped on channel 1 looking for information. Directional antennas aided in determining rough locations of operators. Presently, I use GMRS to communicate with a small group of primarily FRS users and a local repeater. Few people monitor simplex channels, and those who do aren't GMRS licensees, so virtually all GMRS-to-GMRS operation is repeated.

Hellooo, I've been using GMRS since about mid 2016. Absolutely love it. Radios I use for GMRS are as follow: Motorola PM400 (mobile) Motorola Maxtrac (base) Icom F6021 (base) Motorola XTS3000 (portable) Motorola XPR3500e (portable) Motorola HT1000 (portable) Motorola CDR700 (repeater) I've always been a fan of Motorola, just the strong build quality and how durable the radios are. I do have a couple Baofeng portables in my car and use them from time to time. I use GMRS to talk to mainly friends, occasionally family as well.
