    BTech 50X1 start up beep

I just purchased a BTECH 50X1. Every time the power is turned on or turned off, it emits a horribly loud beeping tone. In Gods name, someone please have some idea how to eliminate this noise. I am very hard of hearing. I spent my Naval career working the flight deck of an Aircraft Carrier. I spent a lot of hours standing next to very large Jet engines at full afterburner while waiting for them to be catapulted off the pointy end of the ship. I have to cover my ears before turning this dang thing on or off. It physically hurts my ears. Did I mention the crap I am taking from my wife. Oh Yes, I am taking a lot of crap from her over this noise. She refuses to turn the radio in the car on so we can have communications while she is out running errands because the noise scares her. Volume control has no effect on the radio or the wife. Shouting at it has no effect on the radio, however the wife... Well that's another topic. Throwing things at it has no lasting effect on the radio, again, the wife.... Well not a good idea. Placing a pillow over it and sitting on it during the insertion of elimination of power seems to be the only effective way of reducing the volume at this point. Radio quiets down, however the wife......she threatened to call the cops if I did it agian. So as you can see, I am at my wits end. Anyone have any ideas how to get rid of the annoying beep. I'm keeping the wife, it's her money if you get my drift.... Dan

    PowerTalkieX ?

They must have changed it since I posted it as none of that info was there, In fact they had claimed it was 3W output at the time while the picture and their ad showed 8W (The pic still says 8W on it). Thanks for finding the data on them though

    PowerTalkieX ?

I scrolled down the page at the link above and the spec's given were: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Technical Specs: License Free FRS Radio 462 - 467 MHz Exceptional conditions: Approx 20 Miles range Everyday use: Approx 3.2 Miles range Rugged city use: 50 floor penetration One-piece back clip 9-level noise reduction 80 decibel speaker output 16 Memory Channels 8,000 mAh internal battery Type-C fast charging Only 1.5CM thick (as thin as an iPhoneX) Under 5oz weight 15 day standby LED dot matrix display Headphone charging interface Transmitter Output Power: 2W/0.5W Modulation: FM (F3E) Max.Frequency Deviation: ≤5KHz Sparious Radiation: ≤7.5μW Receiver Sensitivity: 0.16μV(12dB SINAD) Audio Power: ≥300mW Audio Distortion: 80 decibel speaker output Receiving Current: <300mA Standby Current: <200mA Emission Current: <1800mA Audio Distortion: <5% Intermodulation: >60dB Max Frequency Deviation: <5KHz Supply Power: DC3.7V CTCSS/DCS: The transceiver has 50 CTCSS and 208 DCS, also non-standard subaudio can be programmed ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To me it just looks like a cheap DSP based "radio on a chip" type hand-held. This is common in the "Baofeng" type Chinese radios. They use the RDA1846, or a derivative of it. You can get the datasheet and programming guide for the chip here: https://github.com/phishman/RDA1846/tree/master/Datasheets I would like to see the FCC ID, which it should have to be sold in the US. From the FCC web site can you see what parts the radio has certification for by looking at the grant.

    PowerTalkieX ?

If they're 900 MHz, I'm all over them.

    Base Station Antenna options

I am using the 712EFC antenna with Timesmicrowave LMR400 for my household repeater. Now my range isnt too great because of the height, (17' above ground, thanks to not owning my property and the landlord being afraid of the insurance costs of a tower on his land) but upgrading the feedline and antenna nearly doubled the range I had. (Originally I was running RG8X and a Diamond 200U) Still there are other factors in play. What is the terrain between your house and the repeater you are trying to hit? If there is a mountain or very large hill between you and the repeater, chances are you'll need a taller antenna structure, not just a higher gain antenna. If you have a ton of pine trees, you may find the new setup (Higher power and better antenna) works well for you as it punches through the trees. You may also benefit from a lower loss feedline meaning less dB loss for the radios receiver, and more power getting into the antenna from the transmitter.

    PowerTalkieX ?

Actually, I was more curious about the radios specs. All I could find was that it was thin, output 3W, and transmits F3E (FM). I am thinking its a GMRS radio, though the ad doesn't say, so it could also be 900MHZ, though if thats the case I think the radio would be locked in at .5W. Given the other falsehoods (Digital transmissions, 8W power output) on the site I wouldn't purchase the radio myself. But as a radio geek (otherwise known as a ham) it still makes me curious about how the radio works lol.

  8. You'll get yourself all twisted up trying to find "Legal" Part 95a radios with Type Certification. Especially if you want a certain standard of actual (not just advertised) performance. Take a deep breath, and go searching the FCC violations for ANY instance where a user was fined specifically for using Part 90 radios in GMRS. You'll search high & low without finding a single instance. Your options for good (and relatively inexpensive) radios increases dramatically once you take the step over to Part 90 equipment (which meets or exceeds all Part 95 technical spec's.) I am not a lawyer, your mileage may vary. Caveat emptor, etc.

    Retevis RT76?

Marc, I don't necessarily agree with everything you said here. But you have obviously put a lot of thought and study into it, and I respect that. And especially, thank you for the work you are doing in support of the Second Amendment!
