Again, I just read it somewhere on here, that may have been posted from a few years back. I’m not on here enough to read enough through outdated posts. So again, before ordering double check to see if this LINKED SYSTEM is accepting SIMPLEX. That’s all I really know, I just own duplexed repeaters, never played with SIMPLEX repeater systems, other than peer to peer and group communications. Don’t Quote Me on RULES lol, I’m NOT up to date yet! Good Luck[emoji1303]

  3. Totally, steel parabolic dish could be used as a ground plane, if rotated horizontally. There is another option too. Discussed is 2m antenna, but 65cm antenna is even easier to build using this technique: http://w6nbc.com/articles/2016-03QSTdishslot.pdf

  4. In theory it should work. The dish would simply act as one leg of the antenna much like the cookie sheet. However you may need to extend the feedline to get your mag mount up there which could reduce signal quality depending on how you do it. Personally, I use 5/8 over 5/8 antennas as they do not require much of a ground plane. By purchasing a base 5/8 over 5/8 antenna and a good feedline you could scrap the dish and just use the 1.5" pole to mount the antenna to. Either way, I believe you will see an increase in range. I liken it to running a portable from inside of a car vs using an external antenna. Either way you'll have improvement.

  5. ...and the answer is: Don't worry about it. If you'll notice, the old FRS frequencies are in between the old GMRS frequencies - every-other-one. [they are technically one and the same now anyway. Depending on whether or not you are licensed determines how much power you are allowed to run, and how much bandwidth.] If anything, you should adjust for best SWR on the 462.6MHz (simplex) frequencies, but most antennas have a wide enough bandwidth to just set them for great response across the whole band, with the best peak at 465.1MHz, but still great response on 462.6 (1-7, 15-22) and 467.6 (8-14 [low-power channels], GMRS 15R-22R Repeater Inputs).
