[Wouxun KG-805G Stopped RX-ing/TX-ing after using CHIRP.]

The CHIRP config from @wayoverthere got me to where I could RX/TX again but had me stuck in VFO mode.

Someone at my local ham club Slack (who I bought the KG-805G from) had a Wouxun config that I subsequently wrote to the radio.

I think I'm back in business now.

I'm uploading the stock KG-805G config now.

I wonder if going into the KG-805G programming software from Wouxun and creating a new config and writing it to the radio would have gotten me back to working after @wayoverthere's CHIRP config - I guess we won't know. I don't really wanna chance killing this radio trying to take it through this cycle again.

This KG-805G was basically in rain water - which is... pretty much distilled water? Anyway, RX/TX seems to be working - I'm thinking I'm just dealing with programming/CHIRP issues at this point

I think this is the latest version i had loaded, rather than a fresh read from the radio...chirp seemed to limit channel names a little more than the factory software, so i did another read/write with the factory software and poked at the names a little after this.

sharing this with the disclaimer that it wouldn't be a 95e compliant configuration, since there's some 70cm stuff in there.  i didn't find a clean factory gmrs configuration file, but i may be able to make some time this weekend to flash it back to stock and read that out if that configuration is preferred.

With this CHIRP image I've confirmed that the RX/TX circuitry still works. I noticed that the image according to CHIRP was for a KG-UVD1P instead of KG-816 - I guess the KG-805G is compatible with a few different Wouxun radios.

I didn't know that the KG-805G can be unlocked to TX on the 70cm HAM band, interesting. 

What I can't figure out now is that I'm now in what seems to be VFO/frequency mode and I can't figure out how to get into channel mode.

@wayoverthere - do you (or does anyone else) have any thoughts on how to get to  back to the channel mode? If you flash a KG-805G with the supplied image, do you end up in VFO/frequency mode?

Thanks all. I've put the radio in ziploc bag with two big dessicant bags in front of my wood fired stove for a couple of days and it still won't receive and transmit. It was in my friend's pocket which had water leak into it and created a puddle. He didn't notice for a while and it was on while sitting in the water, exhibiting some crazy display behavior. Ah, all of these California rains we've been getting.

I regret not testing transmitting/receiving before I started mucking with the programming but when I saw that someone was having RX/TX issues after CHIRP programming I figured I'd give that fix a shot. 

It's a bummer that the code plug from MozartMan didn't do the trick. I'll see if I can track down a working CHIRP config  somewhere to cover all the bases but I'm guessing the Wouxun config would have fixed it if it was a software issue.

Worst case I've got a spare battery and charger for another KG-805G.

Well well, I've got a KG-805G that's not receiving or transmitting anymore after a CHIRP slip-up. I've been playing around with CHIRP-next which is a huge improvement over the UI in my opinion. I tried to write a config to the radio with CHIRP-next and it didn't want to see the radio, so I downgraded to CHIRP-daily and tried to write the config that I had saved from CHIRP-next. After writing the config to the radio the radio started to behave strangely and revert to Chinese language and beep being on after every power cycle, and TX/RX weren't working anymore. So a word of caution with CHIRP-next.

Now, if someone would be so nice as to send me a KG-805G config for CHIRP from a working radio I would love to try to flash it and see whether it fixes my unit. 

I've tried flashing a working config using the trashy Wouxun software and the radio still won't TX/RX.

(There's a chance the TX/RX issue is from the radio getting wet which happened in parallel with the programming issues...)

 

update: I was sent a firmware which confirms that the radio can still RX/TX, still trying to sort out some details. More over here.. .

Moral of the story seems to be: Don't edit an image in CHIRP-next, save it, and then install it in CHIRP-daily.

I have been using CHIRP and it's been working OK for a few months using the KG-816 mode but I guess CHIRP-next messed up my config or something. 

The code plug you sent me installed fine but I still can't transmit or receive.  I wonder if a config read from a working KG-805G unit using CHIRP would help restore my radio. Does anyone have experience with that or have one of these files around, or is willing to make one? I searched my computer for the old CHIRP config file but it seems to be lost or overwritten. I guess I could buy another KG-805G and pull the working CHIRP config if I can't get help from someone online.

It also doesn't help that this radio got wet recently and there's a chance that the TX/RX got fried due to moisture and it's not code plug related at all.

Well, I've just been burned by this issue. I think what happened is that I edited my CHIRP config file for the KG-805G using CHIRP-Next and then CHIRP-Next did not want to recognize the KG-805G, so I tried to upload the config that was edited in CHIRP-Next using HIRPp-daily and now the radio can't transmit or receive.

I emailed BTWR about this, it seems like they used to have a code plug on the product page but it seems to no longer be there.

If one of you  could send me the CHIRP file to fix the KG-805G it would make me extremely happy - it doesn't help that I just sold this radio to a friend and was just updating some programming for him   This is not a 2 hour rabbit hole I was expecting to go down.
