I know that you said that you hate everything about DMR. However, I didn't hear her say anything about DSTAR / IDAS or P-25, which also takes a lot of real state in the Amateur Radio Service. Of course, I do understand where you're coming from, meaning that GMRS is only one band of channels and to integrate DMRS or other formats would only take away space for analog. I can't say that I totally agree with you, because I do see some advantages to using DMR on GMRS.

Don't understand your post! You talk about activity of GMRS in upstate SC, but what's that have to do with a Trump Rally?
-
Obviously, you're here on the MyGMRS.com. There are a lot of resources out there on GMRS repeaters and a lot more qualified individuals other than myself, that give you straight answers to questions that you may have.

I guess the FCC knew what they were doing when they assembled the Multi Use Radio Service. The FCC should have added 151.625 as a 6th channel, but I realize they're a lot of commercial businesses that use that frequency. Some users aren't really classified as business, but they are licensed for that frequency. For example, the North American Rail Car Operator's Association use 151.6250 as their primary channel when they run an excursion on a branch line. There are Hot Air Balloon Pilots that use frequency for ground to air operation, although I don't know that for sure. I must make a confession; I have programmed a DMR radio and made several tests on 151.6250. I know that violates Rules & Regulation, but I figure as long as I did it low keyed and not use it for casual conversation, what's the problem? Plus that frequency in my general vicinity isn't used. The Q mart uses it, but I'm at lease 4 to 6 miles away that I wouldn't interfere with them.

New Charlotte, NC area GMRS Net

Man, sure wish that I could join in on the Sunday Night net, but I'm here in Bucks County Pennsylvania. If You all have a Zello Channel, I would be willing to to sign on some Sundays. Adam WQAI363 / K3JCP -
I notice only a few of them new AM/FM CB radios have sub tones. I sure wish the FCC would have allowed FM 40 years ago, because my friend and use to hang out at Holmesburg Junction with our CB walkie talkies and the RFI from the catenary sounded horrible.

This reply maybe late, but better late than never. My advice especially when using two-way radios, do your homework. You'll find a lot of useful information and a lot of useless information. Always read and ask more questions, because you'll discover there's multiple answers to the same question. Confusion is a part of any subject or any activity. However, two-way radio communications can at times leave you scratching your head, if you don't do that homework I told you to do.

I don't want to give the wrong advice because someone will disagree with me. Of course, that's what makes our nation unique, each of us is entitled to our own opinion. This may sound weird coming from me but is really necessary to use codes on non-commercial or non-public safety systems. I can see in situations where a group of volunteers are working in community service events or disaster relief, but normal rag - chew or in a convoy, probably not.

I sincerely apologize for how I said what I said. I just meant using those apps that run on Android or other OS devices has made programming radios a lot simple, whether in the Amateur Radio community or the GMRS community. I hope BTECH comes out with a Dual Band Handheld for Amateur Radio, maybe incorporate DMR / NXDN along with Analog. I would put my FT 60R and other radios for sale if BTECH comes out Amateur Radio version.

I maybe a little to add my two cents, but being a NE Philly Boy, I hope that someone would reach out to me with information, so I could join if the dues aren't too steep.

Amateur Radio Clubs cover this nation like a blanket in some populated areas. However, I don't see too many GMRS Clubs, not saying they aren't any. But I don't see too many around the Delaware Vally area, at least not well known as the Amateur Radio Clubs. I won't say they aren't any, because I don't know that for a fact. I know that there are a quite of a number of GMRS Repeaters stretching from Ohio Pennsylvania line to the Jersey Shore. A good number of those repeaters have excellent coverage but using them may not be easy for some of them aren't listed on MyGMRS or Repeaterbook. So, you may be driving without notice that it is a closed or semi privet system.

Yep, those days are long gone. Those old 11m Walkie talkies had a larger footprint then the 49mhz radios that Fisher Price or Ty Co Electronics put out. Beside the squelch circuit in most of those transceivers didn't work. You always heard the static when no one was talking. I had several of those CB handhelds of the years and always picked RF noise from Over Head Catenary near the PRR Northeast Corridor at Holmesburg Junction. Yep, my friend Jimmy and I would hang out at Holmesburg Junction and stay in tough with the CB. Jimmy would go to one end of Holmes Interlocking and I would hang out at the Tower.

Just as Amateur Radlo Licensees, I started on the 11m band aka CB radio. I took my exam on 06 February 2003 and granted KB3JCP 11 February 2003. June 2004 is when applied for GMRS license and there's times that I don't really use it, but I do make use of both at the City to Shore MS 150 for nearly 20 years. Once I upgraded back in 2014 I applied for a vanity license K3JCP. I really can't get my father to use a cell phone and never really tried to get him to use GMRS. I wish I could get pick the radio, because I have access to 2 repeaters that if need him or he needed me, we could have connection.

Why is Tennessee not connected to the GMRS Hub?
WQAI363 replied to JeffEngel's topic in National and Regional GMRS Nets
That's acceptable by Zello Right? Right now, I don't have my mobile rig set up to my Diamond X50, which will cover 440 to 470 with no hassle. I'm not too sure about VHF out of the 2m portion, but I suspect it will handle MURS Channels 151. to 155. Plus, I'm really not too sure what is the closes GMRS repeater near me that is linked up to the network. For mobile I have the CS 800 and CS 800D, which I know neither one of them are Part 95 E accepted. They're primarily DMR Amateur Radio, but with a Part 90 Typed Acceptances. -
FCC PART 95 (G) SUBPART (C) PARAGRAPH 2
WQAI363 replied to WQAI363's topic in Family Radio Service (FRS)
Yep, I guess the FCC didn't really have to list every relation category. I just didn't want to assume the FCC excluded Cousins, unless it's the four-legged relatives. LOL Thanks! 73 to All -
I am so glad that I own two GMRS PROs, because this Radio is simpler than programming any other transceiver, GMRS or Amateur Radio. I would like to see more manufacturers, such ICOM or KENWOOD come out with a line of radios for Analogue and Digital, such NXD or DMR. Unfortunately, just as there's too much competition with other manufacturers that producing GMRS radios for less. However, you can't beat the ability to program on the fly using an Android device. The majority of radios, GMRS or Amateur Radio. You either have to program it by desktop pc or laptop pc or manually program it from the front panel.
-
I don't want to assume either way, but from what I understood, cousins are not immediate family. However, the FCC seems to consider everyone other than cousins to immediate family. I know what I have read, so did I miss something here? The Licensees Family Structure as I understand. Spouse Children or Stepchildren Siblings Parents & Grandparents Aunts & Uncles In Laws I did not see provisions to allow cousins to be under umbrella. Unless the FCC defines Cousins as Siblings. I am in now complaining, just wanted to see it I should go back and study the entire FCC Part 95 Rules and Regulations.

I assume that some members who have posted comments on this topic, probably asking what I posted. It seems that I strayed off topic and not really making sense. Forgive me for straying off topic, because I thought that I had something to contribute. Obviously, I didn't.

Is more than one license permitted by the FCC?
WQAI363 replied to OffRoaderX's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
I don't really know about changing or applying for vanity licenses for GMRS. Amateur Radio, Yes! -
You right, no one should care whether a person uses Ten Codes or Q Codes on Amateur Radio or GMRS to aid in relaying information. After all, everyone should be entitled to say what they want, as long as it's profanity.

DMR on the General Mobile Radio Service Band sounds good, but not all GMRS users are really familiar with DMR. I mean not all GMRS license holders are also Amateur Radio License holders. I do forget the one manufacture of an FRS radios that have digital capability, but what format ? I want to say Retevis, but I could be wrong. Anyway, I know it isn't any of the other manufactures, such Midland or Motorola. Of course, I would sell all the vertex radios I own to buy Motorola GMRS Mobile if they came out with one, but I have better chance of seeing the Dodgers move back to Brooklyn before Motorola produce a GMRS mobile radio. I kind of dabbled with on FRS low power of course, just to hear my voice over my Scanner. I used channel 01 and 07 just brief test which is technically violating FCC regulations somewhere, but I would not use it unless the R&R changes to allow.
-
According to my knowledge for most bubble FRS / GMR radios, there isn't a so-called standard default CTCSS or DTCSS. I do know that Midland has one or two models with preselected channels with preselected PL/DPL tones. So, I really can't really say that there isn't a standard default tone. Of course, each manufacture may number their tone differently, but they do match up.

It never dawned on me the coast guard personnel. would be using FRS / GMRS. I know a few years ago. UNIDEN had a handheld that was FRS/GMRS and MARINE VHF. Of course, I guess they discontinued for reasons unknown to me. I assume those radios were being used on land rather than on water, especially on the VHF MARINE band. If the FCC would approve VHF MARINE with 5 extra channels, would be MURS. I'm sure it would be a good tool, especially when you sailing close to the shore or in the bay, VHF MURS would be good to have for family members that stay a shore. Of course, MURS is limited to 2 watts ERP. But those 2 watts from VHF transceiver can do better than UHF near water

Has anyone tried the KG 1000M yet?
WQAI363 replied to Craws907's topic in Multi-Use Radio Service (MURS)
I watched a video on YouTube on the KG-1000M. Nice looking radio and I'm sure with the right antenna and feedline, the 2 watts will cover great distances. At first, I didn't understand why the put split tones when all channels are simplex. I figured it out now, you program in a couple receive only channels and leave the transmit tone off.
