  1. @WRUU653 I live in the valley along the river on a farm. I’m very surprised I can hit caballo but maybe if my signal goes straight south and caballo is up on a mountain they’d pry be close to the same elevation. I’ll have to reach out to the swcrs and see what they say about the capilla repeater. I don’t think it’s off because I still receive on repeater channel 20.
  2. @WRUU653 I’m actually driving south today and repeater channel 16 is clear 5x5. I’m passing caballo as I write this. So seems like I’m getting into caballo from home but not capilla (they share the same tx tone). I used to hit capilla easy and it’s much closer (38 miles) and I can actually see the mountain it’s on
  3. @WRUU653 caballo and capilla have the same tone number but different frequencies according to mygmrs maps. I can see the mountain capilla is on. Don’t think i can hit datil from here there’s a pretty big mountain range in between. Datil has a different tone and I’ve actually recently been out there and made contact through it. The caballo is south, about 85 miles and lower elevation. Maybe I’m getting in but I’d think that’s a stretch?
  4. I believe it’s still the same repeater. I was listening to the SWCRS net this evening and I was listening on repeater channel 20. I was in the tractor messing with the radio and I set the same tone on all repeater channels and keyed up every repeater channel and got a squelch tail on repeater channel 16. So I waited on repeater channel 20 which I can hear the net clear as day until they asked for new check ins. I switched back to channel 16. Checked in got the squelch tail and tone back from repeater, quickly switched back to repeater 20 and and head the operator acknowledge they heard me and got me checked in. Pretty sure it’s the same repeater as I live in a farming valley with no other repeaters near me
  5. Repeater channel 16 I can transmit on but receive is full of static. Repeater channel 20 I receive crystal clear but cannot transmit. I have the same privacy code set for both channels 16 and 20
  6. I’m not sure anymore lol I always used repeater channel 20 to receive and transmit and always had a 5x5 transmission and receive. That’s also the frequency that’s listed on mygmrs maps
  7. Here’s another one for you, would they have changed frequencies? Don’t think they’ve changed the privacy code since I have it on the same code on both channels but one works and one doesn’t
  8. Me too. If I’m the idiot that’s fine I’ll own it. I just don’t know why I used to hit it easily and now nothing
  9. 462.550 is repeater channel 15 but I get nothing? Using same code as channel 16
  10. I get nothing from repeater channel 15 on the MXT575 even with the same tx tone that works on 16
  11. 462.550 is the repeater frequency. The 575 is not programmable but the kg1000g is. Would changing one of the frequencies fix this?
  12. I used to be able to hit a repeater consistently about 38 miles away with a midland 575. Recently am not able to make contact with the repeater. Ruled out equipment failures as I just purchased a kg1000g with nogoya antenna and new cable, same issue. Just realized tonight I was able to check into the local net and hit the repeater from repeater channel 16 (TX467.5750)(RX462.5750) but can’t hardly receive anything. RX tone is off. But I receive with full signal on repeater channel 20 (TX467.6750)(RX462.6750). Tone is still correct and have the same tx tone on both channels. What am I doing wrong?
  13. @WRUU653 so the roof is plastic but I have a roof rack that attaches to the roll cage through the roof. my antenna is on a magnetic NMO mount. the roof rack is made out of tubing so there is no flat metal surface. I have the magnet mount on a section to the rack where the tubing has a "T". I was under the impression that a "ground plane" was more like a metallic flat surface beneath the antenna that helps direct the transmitting frequencies up/outward so that it gets more "fars" lol
  14. @WRUU653 @WRWE744 @davidotoole I’ve made progress! I got the tones setup and can key up the capilla peak repeater. I asked for a test and got a response, I was told I was way down in the weeds lol. I transmitted again and the response was as it sounded better. I asked for a twenty and stated where I was but no response. My antenna is on top of my side by side that has a plastic roof. I’m going to attach a piece of sheet metal on the roof and hopefully that will help my transmitting. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks for all the help!
  15. @WRUU653 Thanks for your help! Im still trying to grasp everything as I have zero knowledge/experience with this but that was a lot of help. Starting to understand and figure out my equipment I will keep you posted. Thanks again!
  16. @WRWE744 the nearest I’ve found is 45 miles to the north of me. I’m not sure if it’s even close enough for my unit to reach?
  17. @davidotoole I’ll have to listen in again they said they do roll call every Sunday at 5pm mtn time. I didn’t find them online I was in my buggy and only heard the last maybe 30-40 mins. But now that I know when they start on Sunday I’ll be listening and maybe I’ll get some more info on how to contact them. I’ll write down the moderators call sign and maybe I can contact him directly
  18. Thanks @davidotoole. Would there be a way to figure out what CTCSS/DCSS code they were using? They were calling for new check ins to introduce yourself. If they’re letting new users check in and join would they not be using CTCSS/DCSS codes? Or maybe my units signal wasn’t strong enough to reach them?
  19. I’m just here looking for help. I can watch videos on how to play guitar til I’m blue in the face. It doesn’t help me get through problems. I can’t ask the YouTube video why it doesn’t work for me or sound the same even though I’m following the instructions. I’d just like someone to be able to actually answer my questions and give a little guidance
  20. Yes I actually watch all your videos
  21. Hey guys I’m completely green to the radio world and just got my license a few weeks ago! Purchased a midland 575 and trying to get things figured out. I live in NM (Socorro county). Looking for someone in my proximity to maybe give me some pointers and help me get going. I don’t know how to use repeaters and I was trying to check in with a local club on Sunday but I don’t think anyone heard me because they didn’t acknowledge me. Any help or tips to get going would be much appreciated. Thank you!
