  1. What we need is some international organization of volunteers that is already recognized for using citizen communications, like CB, GMRS, and Ham radio to assist with official communications when needed. Oh wait, there IS one... http://www.reactintl.org/ Mission Statement We will provide public safety communications to individuals, organizations, and government agencies to save lives, prevent injuries, and give assistance wherever and whenever needed. We will strive to establish a monitoring network of trained volunteer citizen-based communicators using any and all available means to deliver the message.
  2. The 29MHz band is part of (top half of) the 10 Meter Ham band. 29.000-29.200 is the AM window, with 29.000 being the calling frequency for 10AM. 29.300-29.510 is used for Ham Satellite down-links, and should not be used by ground services. 29.520-29.590 are FM repeater inputs. Usually 10Kc spacing, +-3Kc deviation 29.600 is the FM Simplex calling frequency. 29.620-29.690 are FM repeater outputs, and FM simplex talk-around. A General class or higher Amateur license is required to use frequencies higher than 28.500 in the 10 Meter band.
  3. I just got my GMRS license last week. When I applied, the form said the fee was now $80, however, when I checked out with my credit card, the charge was only $70. I guessing they may be raising the price again shortly, and the database hasn't caught up yet.
