Another Staten Islander! I am still very new to this as well but welcome aboard! Not too much GMRS traffic by me on the South Shore but you will get some. My GMRS experiences is only with a 5w HT so that limits me a little. Enjoy!

I already got a AARL test book and looked into local test schedules.

Glad to see some others here in NYC. Any public repeaters with Staten Island coverage?

Hello. First thing, please excuse my ignorance as I am still VERY new to this hobby and limited to my Baofeng GMRS V1. I didn't have much interest in getting my tech ticket but technology like APRS and D-Star seem interesting. Are services like that limited to the ham community or are there any GMRS options? Hello All! I am brand new to the GMRS world. I got myself the a Baofeng GMRS V1 and have been listening a bit. I don't hear too much traffic besides for some little kids playing around. Looks like there are a few local repeaters but I am not hearing much besides for the occasional tone. I have requested permission to use them and heard back from one of them which is the closest which is great! Thanks for all the great info on this site!
