  1. Thanks everyone so my first answer being handheld transceiver is correct.
  2. I know that GMRS stands for General Mobile Radio Service and that FRS stands for Family Radio Service as outlined by the FCC but what does “HT” refer to. Am I correct to think it stands for Handheld Transceiver be it a Ham radio, Frs or GMRS? Trying to learn Thanks WRXX537
  3. Sorry for the stupid question but being a total Newb to all this, when you say “channel 19” are you referring to the (am I correct when I say simplex) channel 19 or channel 19 with the repeater programed? Again, sorry if this sounds like a stupid question to you.
  4. I myself have the MXT275 and do not like it because of the method to program frequencies in, (can’t have multiple tone codes per channel) and will be selling once I decide if I want to stick with GMRS or get a Ham for my Jeep. I feel the GMRS is limited as far as talking to others unless you are linked to a repeater. Im new to this myself but do have some experience with my radio to know I’m looking for more.
  5. For those of you with GMRS radios in your vehicle do you find that you have difficulties contacting repeaters from state to state? im confused on how this works, I know with a CB you just talked when ever truckers stoped to take a breath and someone would answer you. With a GMRS I can connect to a repeater and talk to someone that happens to be monitoring the channel at the time I transmitted but if I’m just scanning simplex channels I never get out or hear anyone. i have a trip planned for November to go to Texas from the Chicagoland area and don’t quite understand how this works. If someone understands what I described can you share your thoughts to this complete noob I currently have a Midland MXT275 that I do not like the way you have to program and will be looking at purchasing a Wouxun KG1000 G Plus in the near future. Please don't recommend Motorola or Kenwood radios as they are not for the consumer from what I read. Thanks WRXX537
