is it possible to setup repeater channels manually in the mxt500 ??

Im new to gmrs, just got my call sign , and am looking radios. Need to know if anyone knows about the midland mxt500 or 575, as to how far you can talk on simplex, im in the country and the signal has to travel over a populated area,(No hills or trees) to my daughters house ,,about 15 miles as the crow flies..any info will be appreciated..Joe
