  1. Very smart! I'm good with fans. I have hi end stereo system and hi low-medium power radios that last me over 35+ years. It would have not happen if there wasn't any fan in it. Every-time the fan kicks in, my friends "were" telling me. "Man.. you have a power house in your home base. I can hear it when the fan kicks in with very strong ...% modulation" The truth is, I just have a beam antenna and a 30 watt radio which I can hit from Torrance CA to Galveston TX easy on a good skip days. But that was back in the 80's with a different radio using a similar power supply.
  2. Thread resurrection. I'm setting up in installing a home base J-Pole antenna. Its probably gonna be a very short rum with no more than 50 ft. Anyone had experience or takes with Belden 9914. I never tried this on a two way radio but I been using Belden interconnect on Hi Fidelty system and its just wonderful in so many ways. This company have been in business for a long time as always one of the top notch. Going back, I wanted to use a solid core cable that has an excellent shielding. As I understood, this is originally on of the high standard real RG-8 coax cable that has a 99% braiding. I was wondering too what is the flexibility of this cable vs the high grade LMR 400? I will have to have the company cut and install the Amphenol PL259 to have it done professionally. Any takes would be great and thank you!
  3. did you get it? I was wondering if you added an offset? if so what did you write? Thanks,
  4. Got a GMRS handheld. Trying to get around it but so far this is way better than the one we use before. I'm able to pick up signals that are over 10 miles from house. This is definitely getting interesting. I cant wait to get my base antenna soon and make plans installing it the right way. I was watching Randy on Youtube. Its full if information and he's very knowledgeable. Are you guys able to reach him on GMRS repeater. According to him, he's on a highly elevated place. The few high elevation around there is Chino Hills, CA. La Verne is lower. Cant be Montebello for that's in the other side of 605. Sorry for the late reply. I didnt get a notification. It was a Happy Thanksgiving too!
  5. Hi, I have no experience with this radio. Our old midland hand held walkie-talkie died. Since I have a GMRS license I might as well bet a better one for me and the wife. The size f the battery and power attracted me since our old one was draining battery so fast no matter if we get the highest NMHi. Even the distance just barely goes 1/8 of a mile. Any suggestions? Thank you.
  6. Will this work on a GMRS radio? Baofeng UV-5R8W Handheld 8 Watt Two Way Radio
  7. Looks like there are lots of changes from the original 10 code to begin with. I guess its no different from any languages.
  8. Okay I will take a picture. I don't really know where is that ground wire. All I know is my whole electrical box is in the other side of the house which is far from where I'll put the antenna and the coax entrance. The beauty of this is the radio will be sitting upstairs on our bonus room and that is only not even 25 feet of coax I need besides the ground wire which is going to the ground floor. I just wanna point out too that I my patio was recently dug over 6 foot and the soil is still fresh. I mean I can easily stick a solid ground rod in that spot painlessly. Oops by the way.. I almost forget that I need to buy 2 GMRS handheld radio. Because our old walkie-talkie dies not too long ago. Are there any GMRS hand held radio that I can buy that that is not that expensive like around 100 bucks for 2 of them? Honestly we dint use our old radio besides emergency or she's inside the grocery. what do you think about this one?
  9. I also also ordered my complete mobile antenna. I hope they get it out soon.
  10. Very good follow-up. I haven't really read everything yet because its all happening at the same time while I'm working and getting ready for the holidays. So going back a but on the right way to install the home base antenna. The highlight you recommended is grounding 8 gauge copper wire (in general) like from both ends on the coax cable and the lower part of the antenna where the mast connects. The other one is, No need for me to put a ground rod instead use the house piping as a ground. Is this correct? Kind of something like the picture below?
  11. I gotta get me a mast, lightning rod, coax, ground rod, 14 gauge ground wire, clamps, new UHF SWR meter and coax connectors. They already shipped the antenna this morning. Do you guys think 8 footer rod will give me 100% grounding?
  12. There is no alarm in my statement which was very clear in the "4" previous picture I posted. As I understood, You're suppose to contact the the owner of the site first by accessing the site for you to get a "green light" so that they would know who is using it, how many and for what purpose.. and whatever. Just like what I mentioned, I'm just new to the site and maybe you're doing something different than what I read and understood. Anyways the President sent me an email and looks like he took the time patiently it all straightened out. These are all just what I know and here are the documents. Thanks.
  13. That's not what I said. Its very clear in the "previous picture" the request didn't pass.
  14. Glad youre enjoying it. If you dont mind me asking.. How long have you been on the radio? I had an excellent timeline long ago on the AM radio. That is where I found a few people and close friend that I still have till today. We were doing things that we will never even though about doing today. I been on some many peoples roof house putting antenna, re-roofing friends house.. we re-roof my moms house for 2 days like 20 of us. change my friends water heater, meet alot of people, getting a job. Heck we've done that all because of the radio. People seem not to do that anymore. As I look back, it just put a big smile on me. Right now I have 2 jobs and its a good thing that 2nd one is at home. I'm not really sure what kind of involvement will I be in this new radio system. We'l see. Anyways thank you and will keep in touch. Hopefully I get my home antenna on the mail soon. Don't be a stranger..
  15. I'm not really sure how it works because I'm just new to this site. I just looks at what was written and I just dont want to circumvent the owner. So do you mean this is open like whats indicated the picture? Thanks.
  16. When I finish my setup in the a few days, can you guys help me out in how to "Ping" on the repeater correctly. I been sending request the past few days and no improvement yet. The site administrator sent me an email and he said I should be able to get in now but this is what I got last night.
  17. I'm gonna try to make it work. I'm paying more for the cable than the mounting... Its okay. Honestly I could just really use the radio in the car for emergency. But I'm excited more in the home base setup. BTW: are these any good? W
  18. Heavy Duty Magnetic NMO Mount for CB, VHF, UHF, GMRS Radios with PL-259. RNMOM-195-SUM-B-12I-ST I should be able to get an antenna for my car even with the 11-30 feet is okay. This magna-mount looks promising and even its strong, the base diameter is not that big which is perfect for the Laired and the Tram antenna you pointed out. This is going to a prius, typical hatchback and I may need a bit longer than 12ft. If I dont find a high quality low loss magna mount like this, should it be okay for me to extend the cox with the same type with a coupling? Thanks... The RFMAX # RNMOM-195-SUM-B-12I-ST is a super high quality Heavy Duty Magnetic NMO mount for antennas in high vibration conditions. The unit includes a super-strong magnet, 12 Ft of Low Loss 195 Cable, rubber no-scratch boot, stainless steel pull tab, and molded rubber strain relief to keep the cable from detaching from the mag-mount. This unit come with a PL-259 (UHF Male) Connector Installed which mates with the SO-239 connectors found on most VHF, UHF, CBRS, CB radios and works with Midland MicroMobile MXT105, MXT115, MXT275, MXT400, MXT500 Equivalent to: MXTA12, TC-MB90
  19. Okay then. I'll keep on a look out for more mobile antenna. Ideally all I want is like 3 feet or less. I had my fair share with the 4.5-6 footer francis antenna and I'm iver and done with that almost 40 years ago. The reason why I want magnamount. its going to a Prius which doesn't have much option in putting a nice antenna location. I'm actually looking forward more in the home base. The car is just like behind the wanted list. Just curious, what do you guys think about this one? Thanks https://www.arcantenna.com/products/laird-antenex-b4503-450-470-mhz-mobile-base-coil-nmo-mount-antenna-metalic-ground-plane-required
  20. Hi, I also need to get a mobile antenna. This one happens to be available and its 40 inches (3.3 ft.) I want to install it on magnamount. I'm not sure of I need something that tall. Its for GMRS and the radio is 45 watts. Any inputs? Thanks. 21. Very well said. Thank you! There are plenty of mast that I can get anyways I dont think I need more than 10 feet since it'll be on top of my roof with a high enough elevation.
  22. Thank you for the follow-up. Definitely will cal them to haul for the rest of what I need. I was going to ask if I my old SWR meter that I use in the AM radio will work on GMRS. I'm not sure if my new radio has a built in but even thou, I could use the watt meter. I could use the info before I drive down to the radio store. Amazing I still found my old silver eagle. Unbelievable it survived all these years. If I remember I bought this 1984 together with my Cobra 148 GTL. Time flies.. Thanks
