  1. I went ahead and set up a PayPal account linked to my Debit Card so that should be fine for payment. I had PayPal years ago(mainly for EBay buying and selling) then they got hacked and they were doing some shady stuff so I deleted my account. I guess I'm stuck with another PayPal account now, LOL.
  2. You need 26 out of 35 to pass. I've been getting anywhere from 32 to 35 on my practice tests. Lord Willing I should pass just fine. I just need to make sure of the payment method since I don't have PayPal. I registered with N1UVO for a 2pm session. The email said they take PayPal but the website said they'd also do Zelle. I hope so.
  3. I pulled out my old Logitech USB camera to use with the one on my AIO ThinkCenter. I also took all the papers off of any desk near my desk.
  4. Main reason is to use DMR(as stated in the original post) and a 2nd reason is to open up more frequency options to use. 2M, 1.25M and 70cm go unused on my radios. When I pass the Tech Test I can use those and any repeaters in the area set up for HAM bands.
  5. So the Examiner will file FCC Form 605 for me(I guess I fill in the info before I take the test?) so all I'll need to do is log into my FCC Account and pay the $35 for the license. That's a bit different than getting the GMRS license was. Thanks.
  6. Man, The FCC's website is messed up. I logged in and looked for Apply for New License and went down the list and for the life of me I can't find "HAM Technician" anywhere. I know GMRS is under ZA or some such but what's HAM under???
  7. Yep. Also, all the Public Safety channels I scan are NB as well.
  8. Ok, I've got Zoom set up and I've taken the Practice Test a couple more times, Scored 32/35 and 34/35. I think I'm ready. Just need to set up a time to take the test remotely.
  9. Oh well, I really wish we knew what was going on.
  10. I went through and read the questions(with the answers) this morning then took the practice test. 1st test I scored 33/35 and the 2nd time I got 35/35. I need to make sure I can get Zoom installed on my MX-Linux set-up so I can schedule a Remote Test for sometime in the near future. Then after I pass(thinking positive here, LOL) I can use my FRN to get my Tech HAM Lic. I just hope I don't become one of those "Sad HAMS" that Randy is always talking about.
  11. I went on HamStudy.org last night and took a few practice tests. I finally got one where I was 26/35 which I guess would be passing. The electronics part is easy for me(Electronic Tech Degree, DeVry)but some of the legal stuff and other "HAM" stuff was a toss up. I'm sure with a bit of study I could pass. Thanks for the link.
  12. I checked a couple days ago and Shaw Butte was back up. For how long is anyone's guess.
  13. That would even be worse. Written or oral, either way my brain locks up and the info isn't available for output. I hear you can take the test online, if I did take it that'd be the way to do it so I'd be home in a familiar setting which would help.
  14. The test is what stops me from a HAM Tech license. I've never done well on tests even if I knew all the information. I just can't put the info on paper when the time come to take the test.
  15. I'm honestly only looking at radio as a communication device and not a hobby. That's why I got my GMRS license and didn't bother with HAM. Now that Shaw Butte Repeater is back up I'll have enough range for around town. I just thought it be nice to get more range with DMR.
  16. I've just now saw the you need a HAM license to use DMR.
  17. Been kicking around the idea of picking up an inexpensive DMR radio to put OpenGD77 on to play with. I'm hitting the YouTubes watching videos to learn what I can before I buy anything. Just wanted to see if anyone else had thought about or was actually using DMR and what they thought about it.
  18. I set all my radios up with the 5 MURS channels in case I need to use them.
  19. Channel Banks are a big reason why I really like the BF-F8HP Pro. I like to scan Public Safety channels but I also like to scan Airbands. With Banks I can set each Bank up to scan and move to that Bank when needed. All in all though the K61 is 99% of what the AR-5RM is at a lower price point which lets people get more radios for their group for the same money. Bottom line, I'm just a Radio Dork with an addiction to radios.
  20. I watched your review of the DM32. Digital has always intrigued me but seems a bit complicated. I'm going to stick with analog for now but digital might be in my future.
  21. Couldn't resist the price so I picked up a couple of these to play around with. Enjoy the video and thanks for watching.
  22. You might have had the BF-F8HP and not the Pro model which has GPS and a larger screen.
  23. BaofengTech/BTech has really out done themselves with the BF-F8HP Pro IMHO. This radio has everything I've been looking for in an HT, it's easy to program with the BTech software and even lets you add a Custom Start-Up pic. I did a vid of a quick walk around showing some of the features and showing the really awesome programming software too. Anyway, enjoy the vid and thanks for watching. TN.Frank Out!
  24. Work picked up some little Retevis rt68 radios to use and I wanted to use my personal UV-5r so I went on their website to see which frequencies they used and what the CTCSS codes were. Once I programed them into the UV-5r they worked like a charm. So, YES they are programming CTCSS codes from the factory into their radios. You either need to get into them with CHIRP or similar program and remove the codes or program the other radios with the codes and things will work.
  25. The crime rate in Avondale, AZ. depends on where you're at. Avondale Proper is miles from where I'm at and is a depressed area. The area where I'm at is Middle/Upper Middle Class and crime is very low here.
