Nope. The squelch is on 2. It was on 4. I only programed 1 repeater. I have gone to Reset/Fact numerous times and no luck. The busy icon stays on EXCEPT when it receives. And my luck I have 2 of them. And wish me luck on the Midland mxt575 which I have also. I will put it in my parts box. One thing I have not done is give it a real good smack, then check it and then 2 good smacks, then drop it on the floor. LOL In the trash hauling days some things would starting but things are way different now. But Thank You very much for your input. I have read lots of things that say the same thing. Junk. Now I gotta shop for another one. I am open for suggestions if you have any. Peace.......

My MXT400 shows busy (stays on). It will transmit but no receive. It started after I programed a repeater after testing. Can not fine the receipt (my bad-learn) I reset/fault 3 or 4 times but nothing has changed. Contacted Midland but lost receipt so no help. And they do not work on them! Any thought's??

That is my next learning subject that I will study now as it's a slow time waiting for parts. Maybe that will help on a couple other antennas. And I am assuming it would block some signal in unneeded directions. Perfect timing and,, Thanks for reminding me!

Thanks, Yep . Pinning down another yagi. Google Earth is a great help. I used the measuring tool for lines to 4 contacts and put on paper map and got the distance converting to miles and can see all obstructions. We have spotty woods, flat here and many pines (dense) and others of course.. If I get test completed soon and am satisfied that will change when all leaves are out in a few months and will have to live with results. And based on my calculation curvature is 8 inches per mile. I draw lines to each contact and luckily all are within 40 degrees. And use a compass. No repeaters here.

From my 1 15 mile spot from my house is 15 miles out. Great weather today.. Lower Delaware. I use a compass to aim. I have an antenna switch. A voice recorder at house. 60 feet of Times Lmr 400 on Br-6355 yagi (yes) untuneable on truck. But Rg8u on each tuned trams which I've read is not so good. And 35 ft. of Lmr 400 on cheap 3 element 400-470mhz.yagi at house. I will have a friend help me at the house after I get a better yagi PRE tuned for proper testing. Then (maybe) put same on truck telescopic mast. Both ants over 30 feet. Using Midland mxt575 in truck with lithium battery not dropping below 13.4 volts when TX. At the same time 10amp charger on until I get the truck wired to battery. RX at house should be better with better yagi . And same on return trip TX. Midland mxt 400 at house. A Btech HT broke through on the yagi which is a kinda good sign. Plenty of mistakes but hopefully will be using leftover's at 2 other locations I will get set up later. If the money holds out. Sorry for this being so complicated in my writing but so hard to do all this by my self. I hope the others can read this and share thoughts. I did not graduate for high school but did manage to learn to type some. Hello everyone. Thank you all for past replies. I put a Tram/Browning yagi 5 element BR-6355 on my telescopic mast and Tram 1486 on top on my pickup for testing 15 miles out 30 feet up. Flat land to my target house with a cheap 5 element yagi 4 feet below, a tuned Tram 1486 on top. Spotty woods in between. I read that my br-6355 is not so good. It did ok today. About the same as my Tram 1486 tuned at 465mhz on top of masts. Both did about the same. SO, I am trying to pick a GOOD yagi for the house for a better RX. the house yagi is at 37 feet with another tram, and cheap yagi is to one side 4 feet and 4 feet lower. FYI. I use a voice activated recorder at house when I test. After I get a good yagi on house I will have a friend there and I will do it right. I am open for suggestions and constructive criticism. Don't be afraid to hurt my feelings. Thanks again.

Is it ok to put a gmrs yagi antenna on a metal mast. I think not. Maybe on the last 5 foot of mast I could put a heavy closet rod and or pvc?

I think I will buy my second yagi browning br-6355 5 element. I went out to the 15 mile point today and have a browning yagi on teloscopic mast off the back of my pickup for now, aimed back at my house Tram 1486. I think I will get a second one for the house which will aim at each other. Wondering if I should get a 7 element yagi instead of a 5 or keep them the same. I know the beam width will be smaller with the 7. But for 15 miles, lots of spotty woods maybe I will just buy another browning BR-6355. decision's , decision's. Any thoughts out there? Wow! Thanks again. Great discussion your having. The yagi I am putting on my house is a 5 element browning BR-6355 at 35 feet. My 2nd mast I wish to put up on my shop is 31 feet with a tree closely in the way of the direction I wish to aim before I get out. (past). So I am thinking of putting a 7 element yagi there. What thoughts would have on this. And it is so hard for me to figure out which antenna. I am looking for suggestions to check out. Again. flat between me an my target but lots of spotty woods and curvature of course. Hoping to reach 15 miles. I will wait until I test the house set up before I spend more $ on the shop . Both masts will have a Tram 1486 which I tuned per instructions. I had it on house NOT tuned and now it works better I gotta try at least and go from there. THANKS EVERYONE. Great place to learn.

Thanks WRWE456. Yep. That's what I am after. So close but so far. If it works well next week. I will also test again when the leaves are full out. If needed I will get a taller antenna. Gotta make it happen. So so many hours of studying and very few mistakes. It pays to do your home work and am so grateful to find this site. And fyi- not really interested in repeaters. I don't want to count on others. Yeah. Experimenting Never could turn my brain off. Also great hobby. Thanks!
