Retired 20 year AF Veteran Wideband Comms

I am fully retired and into Truck Camping and getting back into Radios. Was in Satellite and Wideband communications in military but most of what I was trained on is lost to me, been out for more than 20 years now. I'm a computer geek into building systems and learning everything I can about servers and website designing. GMRS, is my latest hobby I'm getting into. Waiting on some more equipment to get to me then will be playing around with setting up a small network for family to communicate in this wide open flat farm land. Thus, hopefully I can convince the local city council to allow me to place a repeater on the water tower for free or small lease fee. Hoping to be able to then hit both city's north and south of Home to cover the 30 mile diameter.
