  1. Question 1- I've been researching about GMRS antennas for in and around city's, homes and trees saying i should get a low gain antenna for this type of area. I live between Houston and Galveston, would a low gain or hi gain antenna be better for this environment. 2nd question is how much coaxial cable is to much if it even matter's when installing a home antenna, I have a 25 foot collapsible flag in my yard that's 25 yards away from the house and is that too much coaxial cable for a home radio GMRS or ham. Just starting out on amateur Radio and researching it.
  2. I have a Baofeng uv-16 pro mate and I Don't see it on the Tidradio bluetooth programmer list when I use it, does any one know what other Baofeng radio that i can use that would work for programing the uv-16. I use this radio mainly when out fishing because it's water resistant. I would like to program some of the shrimp boats frequencies in my to check on fresh bait and safety reasons.

  4. Thanks for the tips, I'm to gmrs and know antennas help out because I'm a truck driver and used CB radios for 25+ years and the antenna makes a big difference. I'm learning asi go with GMRS, excited to see how far I can take it.
  5. I have a question on antennas for hand held radios, I've got a few Baofeng uv-5G and wondered what antenna would be good for suburban area's. I live just outside the Houston in a area with homes, warehouses, chemical plants and schools. The stock antennas work ok at about mile but after that not so much. Looking for groups around the Pasadena, Deer Park, and channel view area's but no luck. Any suggestions on this, thanks for any help y'all can give me.
  6. Thanks for the information, I have found the TheNotRubicon YouTube channel and been watching the videos. Very informative and fun to watch. Ordered a programming cable from Amazon today. Again thank you for any help you can give this newbie.
  7. Thank you I will check out youtube
  8. I was given a couple of Baofeng uv-5x radios and just received my license. I've just been listening not interacting with anyone yet. I'm curious if there are some websites that can give me information or training on everything GMRS. Just want to learn so I can operate responsibly.
