About Me
I'm a retired mainframe programmer. In the 80's and 90's, I used to be into CB's, mostly sideband. Then I picked up a couple Midland GMRS HT's but just used them for camping, travel caravans and around the house. Now, I got the bug to take my GMRS experience to a whole new level with Midwest GMRS and repeaters.
Today (06/12/24) was my first day as a Midwest GMRS member. It was also the first time I ever talked on a repeater. I put out a radio check to the Warrensburg, IL repeater with my new HT. To my utter amazement, two to three very friendly members came back and said I sounded okay. It's 39 miles as the crow flies from Delavan to Warrensburg!
Of course, for reliable communication I'm going to need something more than a HT. In the meantime, I'm happy with talking a bit on the network when I travel to Lincoln, Springfield and Peoria.
Yeah, I'm gonna like it here!
