  1. Apparently some models now have USB charging. You can buy a battery with a USB cord on Amazon for $14. Or an extended battery with USB for $16 or a pair of extended USB batts for $26. Bottom line...it's no big deal to me but it would be nice to be able to charge a battery outside of it's docking station.
  2. I got my GMRS UV5Rs today from the prime deal. The good... -they did come with an extra pair of Abbree AR177 antennas -still showing $29.99 on my list and when I put them in the cart. YMMV The bad.. -they do not have USB charging like it said in the original ad. Not showing that feature in the ad now.
  3. The UV5R in GMRS mode is $30 for a 2 pack during Prime days on Amazon. That's $15/ea which is the cheapest I've ever seen them. These are type 95 pre programmed on GMRS channels. Come with two antennas, desk charger and USB charging. Of course they can also be programmed for MURS, Ham, Marine etc. Just bought 2 sets of them to give to family members. And no offense to those who don't like cheap radios. Just passing this on.
  4. I bought a pair of Walker's Razor ear muff radios. They attach to the electronic ear muffs that Walker's sell for shooting. No where on their ads, information, descriptions or owner's manual do they say they are FRS radios but they do say they operate on 22 channels which is kind of a give away. I use them to communicate on my range at my hunting property and when riding my very loud UTV side by side. And of course I have some old bubble pack FRS/gmrs radios as well as real GMRS radios and ham. For comms on the range they and the ear muffs work pretty well. So I guess there is still some use for FRS.
  5. Been using FRS radios for decades and only recently learned that the newer FRS radios are rated at 1/2 watt AND now 2 watts. I also just recently became aware that channels 1-7 can be used at 2 watts, 8-14 are limited to 1/2 watt and 15-22 can also use 2 watts. So the question is... on these newer FRS radios, does the transmit power automatically change depending on the channels you're on? In other words if on channels 1-7 and 15-22 the radio is automatically on 2 watts, if on 8-12 it automatically switches to 1/2 watt?

Great! I live in Sterling Hgts, should be able to reach it with my hand helds. In the process of getting a mobile for my truck Also...I thought I read somewhere that there was a repeater in Mt. Clemens. Don't remember where I saw that and can't find it now.

Is this thread dead? Is the Troy repeater dead? It says "disabled by owner"
