  1. I would also know that if I wanted to talk GMRS simplex, all I have to do is stay off one frequency. All of the others are in different counties, and wouldn’t be heard.
  2. I scan the simplex frequencies, as well. There’s nothing on them.
  3. I may have to bring my Radio, when I’m down for spring training !
  4. I’m hoping that my dog shows its teeth ! I’d rather be a Buccaneer !!
  5. If they are using my frequency, I’d hear them. When I tried simplex, I got no response. I doubt that there are many people using GMRS, without a repeater. If they are in the same woods, they’d be able to talk over us, if needed.
  6. If so, then there will be a lot of empty airwaves, and that’s a shame.
  7. And just maybe they actually listen to the repeater system, and find out that no one is being denied access to any of the frequencies…..
  8. By using the internet. We’ll have to figure out another way. Maybe microwaves…
  9. From day one, when I eventually figured out how to do it, I’ve connected to a repeater, that was linked to other repeaters. It’s all I know, and it’s pretty cool. I’m hoping that the FCC doesn’t take away that technology, especially when it’s used correctly, by licensed US citizens.
  10. (1) I like to run the call sign thru the call sign look up, on this site. (2) I don’t personally know of anyone on GMRS (family, friends), other than the ones I’ve made contacting them on GMRS. (3) 95% of the traffic, that I’ve heard, are people making friendly contacts, not mom, pop and the kids taking a hike in the woods…. (4) good for you, and your CW capabilities, scrounging around here with us lowly GMRS folk…..
  11. I can’t speak for all, but here in Michigan, we have a little bit of both. We have the husband and wife who talk together, we also have the husband talking to the wife a few hundred miles away at the cabin. For myself, I only use the phonetic pronunciation, when I think the guy on the other end doesn’t get the call sign. I wish more people would, because they slur the words and numbers all together. And… if someone is asking you about your rig set up ( it’s probably because it sounds great ), and you’d rather not, then ignore them. Easy peasy.
  12. I asked once.
  13. I’ve already been offered help on my radio and antenna setups….. wouldn’t call that elitist at all….
  14. I figured with the FCC determining that GRMS repeater systems were illegal , there wouldn’t be very much to report on here. That’s maybe wrong for me inferring that this site wasn’t long for. But, I thought I’d ask. I was hoping not. For what it’s worth, I got on my repeater system, and they said that we’re staying up, until we get a letter from the FCC. So, everything is good, the sky isn’t falling, at least not yet.
  15. Most hams that I’ve talked or listened to, are more than willing to help out, not elitist at all….
  16. I’ll hold my own. I’m pretty sure of that.
  17. I was asking specifically about this site, and possibly my specific repeater systems, with the headline "myGMRS network Shutting Down". Thank you for your whitty comment.
  18. I read very well, thank you. The headline read "myGMRS Network Shutting down". I just wanted clarification about this site, myGMRS.com, and how long would it be until the repeater systems that I belong to would possibly be shutting down. That's all, nothing more. Thanks for your crass comment.
  19. THANKS !! I'll need it !!
  20. I’m using Ham Radio Prep. Next weekend, I’ll be attending an online course, as well. Fingers crossed !!
  21. I am studying for my ham license, I’m about 30% of the way through.(having a little trouble on the electronic theory)I was hoping to have GMRS as a diversion, a fun one at that. I guess I’m happy that they’re doing it now, so I don’t spend any more money on it. 73’s everyone, thanks for the feedback ! Dave WSDD439
  22. Well, unfortunately, I belong to a repeater group in Michigan, that covers Detroit up to Cheboygan. I’ve made a lot of contacts and friends all over the state, and have even talked past the Mackinaw Bridge and down to Lorain, Ohio. The hobby WAS fun, but I guess, no longer.
  23. So, with this new information, is this site shutting down, along with all of the GMRS repeater systems throughout the country ? Thanks in advance for your clarification, Dave WSDD439
