  1. I talked to someone on both repeaters after i removed the receive tone. Yes. Yes. ~60 miles. No.
  2. Thinking about putting a 40w mobile unit on my truck, I know nothing about them at the moment, But have UV5Rs. It there a 40w mobile unit that I can use CHIRP and copy my HTs settings to the mobile unit via a SD card, app or some way easily? Note I do listen to HAM and want those frequencies open.
  3. Following up to this. I had a receive tone set and removed it and started the comm. The UV5R is showing a green light when I was getting a repeater reply and a reply from another person, but it was not opening squelch I presume. I thought maybe the green light was an indicator of an open squelch and matching receive tone, but no audio due to distance etc. Not so apparently.
  4. That helps thank you!
  5. Ok so it is possible to open squelch and kerchunk this far away but not get audible responses. I see the radio green light come on and off when monitoring channel but never any audible comm. I will be closer to repeater tomorrow to test. Just was confused as to why it seems I am hitting it but no audible comms happening.
  6. I have a repeater programmed on my UV5R that is many many fars away, ~60 miles. When I first tested it with quick kerchunk the reply green light went on but no audible kerchunk. I call out for a radio check and call sign. Again the green light goes on with repeater reply. then it goes on again where I assume someone is talking to me but I hear nothing. So I program radio 2 to the repeater, button push and get green light kerchunk repeater reply on both. I Separate radios and test talking to each other and seems I am getting the repeater reply but no audio. If the repeater is too far away could I get a kerchunk replies on both but no audio communication or hear someone replying to my radio check but see they are talking with the green light on the radio?
  7. Ok that would make sense. Both radios arrived in the same box, so you'd think they were programmed roughly same time from factory. In CHIRP is this the firmware version I downloaded from each radio:
  8. I have 2 UV-5R's that I thought I would be able share the same CHIRP .img file. OR so I thought it would be that easy. Is there a way to do that without having to always copy and paste one .img file channels to another for radio 2? Here is the error I get when I program radio 1 and want to upload to radio 2:
  9. Also, I am thinking just cause it worked to my other UV-5R does not mean its correct. It could mean both radios are Tx and Rx on same frequency and not going through the repeater?
  10. That is a bug then. Kinda sucks because in the field it would make it hard to share settings with my friend's radio and visa versa not knowing which setting do and do not show correctly.
  11. I have set up and sent this repeater CHIRP setting to the UV-5R Radio and comm is working to another radio: When go to that channel and go to menu it appears those settings are not uploaded for the 5.00000 offset and duplex +: Tone settings are in the menu: Is this a bug and I should ignore the menu and assume it is programmed correctly if uploaded to radio via CHIRP? Or is it in fact not sending the offset and duplex settings?
  12. I remember when I was about 10 years old and Radio Shack had kits for crystal radios and all kinds of cool electronic stuff that fascinated me and I spent my lawn mowing money on. I hooked up a DC motor and some other weird stuff, I don't remember what I thought I was building but it scrambled the living room TV. This was when it was broadcast over the air, no cable at all, no satelite. I had so much fun pissing my Dad off with that little machine I made. I could hear him yelling "god damn it, here it goes again". He'd get off the couch and start banging it, which was the common TV fix back then.
  13. Is it locked up like the GM30 software? CHIRP seems wide open, and also probably prone to rookie mistakes that I'll be coming here for help with...
  14. Yes, but they don't use CHIRP, they use Radioddity GM30 programming software.
