Hmm...not sure what's wrong. They're showing when I open the thread. Is there another way to post pics beside the "add files" in the reply box?

My old stuff from the 80's. The emergency CB kit has never been used. The others are in mint condition and they all work perfect.
-
I've got around 4 or 5 vintage handheld Realistic radios. 1 or 2 are CB radios, and the others use CB crystals for channels but are limited to 3 channels, so they were considered walkies. I'll have to dig them out and take photos to post.

Yes sir, i was able to talk to that one repeater that is approx 40 miles away just fine.
-
I just picked up some traffic on one of the repeaters and did a tone scan. It appears that the original tone for that repeater hasn't changed. I just can't figure out why it's listed as no tone. Also, what is a network of repeaters? Not trying to sound dumb, I just don't understand a lot of this as of yet.
-
They're all open status. No permission required.
-
Yeah, I'm not sure. Each listing says input tone "none", and output tone "none". Just curious if that's common, or if not, why would it be listed as such
-
So my county, and 4 other surrounding counties repeaters have been off the map for a month or so. Today, I opened the map and they're all back on. However, they are all listed with no tones, as opposed to the tones they had before. All have the same owner, and are stated as being a part of a network. I'm fairly new to this so I have no idea what that means, or why you would have a repeater with no privacy tones. This is South West of Fort Worth by the way.

Thank you sir

I'm programming one of my HT's to monitor the local UHF/VHF frequencies that are listed on RR. Since I won't be transmitting, can I just program the frequency alone? Or do I still need to program the offset and PL tone too?
-
I believe that is the answer he was looking for. I was thinking tone was what he was asking. There goes my newb-ness showing
-
I'm new to this a bit, but I believe that if there is only an output freq listed, then the input will be the same. I usually just add the TX freq and call it good.

Poor reception with mag mount antenna
Rulander replied to Rulander's question in Technical Discussion
It doesn't have much fall, maybe 2 inches. All of the higher elements of the roof are composite shingles. Only the porch roof is metal. If I decide for sure that I want this to be a base station, I'd definitely get a better set up. I was basically doing a trial run. Was just expecting better results. I do have a 20' mast laying around somewhere that I used for CB many years ago. I suppose I can erect it again and get a better antenna. I just wasn't sure if I was overlooking something with this temporary setup that would help. I suppose it's as good as it going to be as is. -

Total height is maybe 9-10'. It's a short antenna. It's sitting a few feet higher that it was when it was on the truck. -
Poor reception with mag mount antenna
Rulander replied to Rulander's question in Technical Discussion
Everything tight, battery is fully charged. The roof is flat and about 8 ft tall. Antenna is maybe 1.5' tall. The roof of the house is in front of the antenna, but nothing to the sides, or behind. My HT was actually under the roof picking up well. -
I have a brand new 45w mobile unit that I just got a few days ago. I was going to use it in my truck, but am now thinking it would make a better base station unit. The other day, I just popped the hood of said truck, hard wired it to the battery, and slapped the mag mount antenna on the roof just to see if I could hear anybody and get a radio check. I hit a repeater over 40 miles away and got great reports. Today, I wanted to do the same thing, but as a temp base station. I have a huge R panel metal roof that covers my back porch (approx 800sqft). Wired up to a yellow top Optima battery, put the mag mount on the roof, and started listening. My 5w HT was picking up traffic that I couldn't pick up on the mobile unit. There were no differences in freq's, or tones used. It just flat didn't work well at all. What am I missing?

NO REPEATERS DISPLAYED WHILE LOGGED IN WHEN SELECTING REPEATERS NEAR ME?
Rulander replied to WROZ476's question in Technical Discussion
What did you change in your search criteria? When I first signed on to this page, I had around 7 repeaters in the proximity of my country. Now, the map only shows 2. I don't know where the others went -
That's awesome. Most of the traffic in my area is on a repeater over 40 miles from my house. I only have HT's so I can't hit that repeater from here. I did however get my new 45w mobile unit in the mail today. I can listen to most of the conversations on that repeater, but I feel left out. Our local one sucks. I'll get my mobile setup either as a base station, or in my truck. I just want to join the party
-
Funny you mention that. I actually have a 45w mobile unit being delivered today. I haven't decided yet if I want to use it as a base station, or put it in my truck.

Unfortunately, I can not hit that same repeater from my house, which is about another 5 miles south of the in laws house. It's unfortunate because I sit here and scan and get nothing. Again, our local repeater sucks. I can however talk simplex to my brother in law 5 miles away. I gave him his first radio yesterday hoping that he gets into the hobby as I have
-
Yes sir. Aside from using the radios for off road comms, just shooting the bull over the airwaves seems to peak my interest. It wasn't too long ago that we had a bunch of local CB'rs that were on the radio in my AO. Including me. I guess this hobby brings that back in a way.

Earlier tonight, while watching some college football at my brother in laws house, I made contact with several stations on a repeater with my HT from approx 40 miles away. Everyone said I was coming in very clear and surprised at that. Apparently that repeater sits very high. Radio is a Tidradio TD-H5 with an NA771G. So far, this was the most radio communication I've had. Our local repeater sucks, so I've had very little contact since I got into this hobby. Tonight was fun!! That's all I have

I understand this. I'm just doing a trial test to see if I can pick up some traffic around here. It's only about 5 frequencies and I can program them manually before my laptop even boots up
