So everyone is aware; the Hampton West GMRS repeater is in service. 462.575, CTCSS tone is 203.5. There are GMRS nets the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 1930 hours on this repeater. The Tabb Repeater is also up and running, 462.650, CTCSS tone of 114.8. The Hampton East repeater, 462.7000, CTCSS tone 233.6, is currently offline and will be used for disaster and weather reporting during incidents, and could be relocated to Hampton Fore Station 5 is needed. My Hampton portable repeater is deployable and will also be used in specific, needed areas for hurricane and other disaster work. THE WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18, 2025 GMRS NET AT 1930 ON THE HAMPTON WEST, 462.575. PL 203.5, WILL BE A CKECK-IN FOR ALL GMRS USERS IN TIDEWATER WHO WOULD LIKE TO PROVIDE WEATHER REPORTING FOR DISASTERS. SYSTEM: The Hampton Virginia repeater is new, is a Vertex VDX-R70, 25 watt system located near Mercury Blvd and North King Street in central Hampton. It's currently in BETA testing mode and is owned by me; a retired law enforcement officer and disabled vet. I am working closely with a couple of great individuals in Portsmouth and Surry to accomplish this goal. In late November 2024 we requested The Chamberlin Hotel / Harmony Assisted Living center on Fort Monroe to allow the installation of this repeater in the building with a roof-mounted antenna, and were told they would do all they could do to get it done; we are still awaiting a response. As secondary and tertiary locations, we sent a request December 10th to the Fort Monroe Authority to utilize space there, as both locations are on the water, have higher structures, and will reach Norfolk. I have also reached out to Hampton University Real Estate Foundation this week requesting a 2nd alternate location at 2 Eaton Street in downtown Hampton. 2 Eaton Street is a 14 story building and would give very ideal coverage. I'm open to other possible locations in Hampton with the height requirement to attain a 20 mile service radius. The system is currently being BETA tested at my Hampton residence with the antenna installed at 30 feet until it can be installed at one of the top three locations in the next 90 days. ROLE: This repeater's PRIMARY role is to provide radio distance access to Disabled Veterans and military personnel with low power radios in Hampton, Portsmouth & Norfolk who utilize GMRS as a hobby or to speak to someone other than F2F and have no repeater access. It will however be open to any licensed user. The SECONDARY role will be utilized for emergency communications for a group of volunteers, the majority of whom are DV's, active duty & retired military personnel who require solid communications when volunteering during hurricanes, flooding and other disasters on the peninsula and northeastern Norfolk. This repeater will be restricted to essential personnel only during these incidents.

Hey everyone. I'm new to the GMRS field and have been talking with a couple of folks locally. I want to build or buy a working repeater to operate in central Hampton VA, near the downtown area. I'm looking for either another Radius 16 channel (with display) mobile or another XPR 4350 and a duplexer. All help is appreciated. Thanks.

I'm a retired law enforcement officer and although not new to two way radios, I am new to GMRS, and will be using the system we recently purchased for camping and power outages mostly. The rig is a Motorola XPR 4350, a "silver box" with two lines in and 8 lines out to the repeater and and an SVR 250 UHF repeater. It is likely pretty powerful so I'm told. Looking for a local expert who can help to program the radio to 8 GMRS channels and get the repeater up & running here in Fox Hill. I also have a (25 watt?) Motorola Radius mobile/base with 8 each GMRS and repeater channels, and want to learn how to get it up and running. With this radio I have a home roof mounted 4 foot fiberglass UHF antenna. Any advice or assistance with getting these things off the ground would be appreciated. I also have 3 Motorola M1225 VHF small form factor mobile radios that I would like to get rid of.
