  1. Just my two cents from the peanut gallery. Instead of dumping a lot of money into a crappy cheap radio. Just save a bit longer and buy a better radio, something commercial grade. Better radio over all. How are you going to power and AMP out and about? How much more distance are you actually going to gain. The lower channels were designed to be low power so if multiple people are on them, they are not creating interference. Think of a theme park.
  2. I have not messed with that software yet, but when you do set up your personalities for the FRS channels, just double check the spacing on it. The CPS might automatically convert it to 12.5kHz for the channel spacing. Some of the Motorola CPS does it by default. I would love to pick up a portable radio in the future in that series so I can have and "all in one" radio, DMR, NXDN and P25.
  3. If you have a yagi I believe you can hit it. I want to say I have heard someone check in from Flag before and they were using a yagi.
  4. I meant a YouTube review. It would be hysterical!
  5. I think you should do a review on it.
  6. Some owners just want to keep track if who is using the repeater.
  7. I have some from last year still pending.
  8. Get a little portable set up adn go out and have fun. I find that there is just too much noise by my house for the HF.
  9. 20. Recently, several GMRS and FRS radios have been certified with an optional voice “scrambling” feature that purports to add a level of privacy to communications within a particular group of users.3 Well right here show they are not paying attention to their own rules. Wonder how many “several” really is?
  10. I rarely hear Az station when doing POTA. I did twice, once at Table Mesa and the other operator was across the highway. The other time I was at the wildlife are off of the 85 in Buckeye and I heard some guys from Az talking. Not sure where they were at. Yesterday there was about 4 different people from Az talking and I could not hear any of them but the propagation was sending me to the North West and East. It varies all the time and through out the day.
  11. I understand they are not violations. If I recall correctly he heard digital burst and stuff on this frequency. I was just pointing out that they are using it for a sounds like a trucking company. Maybe they have a data system transmitting on the frequency also and that is what he is hearing.
  12. They were using DTMF tones I will gather as an ID for the radios. If they are running a little business on the channel maybe they are also using some other data on the channel also.
  13. You were hearing stuff on this frequency originally, no? Maybe they have other forms of communication on it also?
  14. I was at South Mountain today for a hike with some coworkers. I was picking up some company using GMRS-1 with DTFM tones being sent Pre and then calling out his number to dispatch.
  15. No. It is past warranty. I had heard some were goos others not so much. I received a not so much one. I have it connected to a hot spot now so it helps a lot. I purchased it originally to listen to DMR a few years ago before I got my license. Did not know you needed a license to monitor. I just don’t care for the disconnect after use and programming it blows. Even with AT software, hell I think and APX is easier to do than that thing.
  16. Swapped antenna with a "Smiley" one. Did not help at all.
  17. You got a good one. Mine could not hit a repeater 20 miles away line of sight that sits on a mountain top, yet the tid H3 did no problem. I am sure there are some kenwoods that out perform the 878. The Kenwood NX 5200 for example.
  18. Frank Shoot me and email @ Kevin.halucha@gmail.com Kevin
  19. I helped someone recently that had that radio and cable. I was able to get it to work on my computer, then he was able to get it to work on his after I read it. It is finicky with the com port settings.
  20. The Gorilla is up. The tones are wrong on the page as he has it as a private repeater like I said on the other page. Hit the request and he will get back to you eventually. You will hear MDC and Fleetsync on it typically.
  21. Send him a message and he will eventually reply to you. He uses it to talk to his kids mostly. There are a handful of us that have the correct tones for it. The coverage has changed also as he changed antennas a few months ago. You will hear MDC and Fleet Sync on it typically. I do not recall the Rx tone but if you monitor it carrier squelch you will hear the id come across it.
  22. Honestly only you can decide that. There are pros and cons to them all. Look at them side by side and determine what will meet your needs the best. I had a Baofeng and bought the Wouxon UV9GX+ and the 935+ shortly afterwards. They all have different features and so forth. Things to consider: Availability of batteries, OEM and aftermarket. Some aftermarkets are worse than OEM, do your research. Battery charging? USB-C/ cradle or both. If you use it a lot and need to charge on the go, having to carry a cradle around can be a challenge. Accessories that will benefit your use. I.e. lapel mic, programming cables etc.
  23. I cannot find a list anymore, but I had them in my XTS 5000 to monitor while off road. A friend programmed his XTS5000 with them so he can talk to his friends while they were out in the SBS. The list he gave me showed the frequencies below. I do not know what they were using for digital, but I would gather DMR. **Disclaimer** These were pre–Rugged Radio getting into trouble with the FCC for using unauthorized frequencies. Search the net and you will see all kings of info on it. These we listed at their "Digital" frequencies. 462.200 462.225 462.325 463.525 467.225 467.325 468.525 467.425 462.375 468.275 463.275 464.225 464.325 469.325 464.3875 Regular channel frequencies are: 451.800 451.8125 456.800 456.8125 462.125 462.025 462.225 462.200 467.125 467.0625 467.025 469.225 468.225 467.200 462.225 462325 463.525 467.225 467.325 468.525 467.425 462.375 468.275 463.275 464.225 464.325 469.325 464.3875 I still have the second half programmed as Rx in a bank to listen to any traffic while driving off road. I never hear any traffic as they now use some licensed frequencies, and some are area specific by the looks of it.
  24. A friend gave me a list about a year ago with "Rugged Radio" frequencies that were digital. These were pre getting into trouble frequencies. I think some GMRS ones were on it as there was a mix of stuff. Maybe some people using them with a little repeater or beacon. I will dig around and post the list once I find them.
  25. There were people fighting back and forth and threating harm to each other on the "575 & Shaw". It just got into a big pissing match as other people would jump and as the chaos unfolded. Both were turned off for about two weeks. I am able to hit them with my APX. 600 seems to be hit or miss anymore. The AzGMRS Clubs 550 has a big footprint as it is on White Tanks. You have to be a member to use it though. They do have a few other repeaters that they give you access to that are club/member owned across the Valley. Scottsdale, I believe is down. Two in Mesa, 650 and 725. You have to be a member and free to join, is the Southwest Community Radio System. Pinal Peak has a good footprint. (Downfall is when people be stupid, they turn on the ID, so you need to activate the code they give you so the DTMF tones broadcast over on key up or if your radio supports MDC, you can use that. Depending on atmospheric conditions you can hit Signal Peak, Towers 575 brother repeater. Gorilla has been changed, and it is not the correct tones. Again, people were being dumb, so he has a few people that are on it, primary his family. Tonopah: I live in Laveen, and I was picking him up talking to a family member the other night about what road to take due to the flooding out there. This was on my portable and not a base radio. I have not tried to talk on it yet, but it might have a decent footprint since it is relativity flat that way. Radio traffic in general has died off compared to 6 months ago on the GMRS repeaters.
