  1. Monitoring is valuable for gaining info and knowing what is going on during emergencies. No need to transmit, just listen and be “in the know”. Thanks so much for the info!
  2. Understanding the rules……hearing something that possibly conflicts or causes confusion raises questions. Been in the game 2 days! Thought this was the place to gain knowledge and ask questions. Grace and Mercy! God Bless!
  3. Understand! The question was posted because I did, in-fact, know and understand the rules for operating within the GMRS parameters (frequency ranges) and was puzzled by the instructional video I watched about entering/assigning frequencies to a channel, but one thing I didn’t take into consideration at the time, was the guy making the video had a HAM license, so he could operate in the frequencies outside GMRS i imagine. Thank You!
  4. First, THANK YOU to all the experts on this site, that helps us newbys! We appreciate your willingness to share your expertise! Ok, my question: My TD-H3 has all the GMRS channels/frequencies programmed into my radio. If I want to manually enter a frequency into channel 1 (let say 441.000) for simplex coms with my son 3 miles away, which is NOT an established GMRS frequency, is this newly formed channel/freq still considered GMRS? Does the fact that my radio is 5w and default set to GMRS make it so, no matter the frequency? SORRY IF CONFUSING!! Brian Osborne, WSFG668
  5. Yep, the weather protection and size are why I want it. If I need to be outdoors and exposed to the elements, the H8 will be the one I grab. It will only be asked to do the basics while being used. I'm thinking of the H8 as my "all weather", "hard use" radio. The investment is low ($59), but the return on the invest could be big! That's my thinking anyway! Thank you for the response!
  6. I currently use TD-H3's for my GMRS activities. I want to purchase the TD-H8 (10w) radios also. Can I use them for GMRS or will the 10w be a violation of GMRS rules? Or when I choose "GMRS" during set up, it will only allow the radio to operate in the 5w range? Thank You for the info! Brian Osborne, WSFG668
