  1. I just wanted to point out that there was a lot of humor in some of the responses in this thread. It was pointed out on another thread that using humor with newbies (of which I am one) is apparently a no-no. I am a special newbie that did not lose his funny bone when I got my GMRS and General Class licenses, so it does not affect me. However, because we now have at least one generation that could not win a rock paper scissors battle, much less Guadalcanal or the Battle of the Bulge, we are supposed to treat them with the kindness they were promised at birth (apparently). Remember, he is probably used to creating solutions for non-existent problems not actually trying to solve a real problem. I just noticed that my reply post contains hints of sarcasm and some facetiousness, both of which are elements of humor. I want to apologize to the starving pygmies in New Guinea, one legged men/women/?? in a butt kicking contest or any other contest of kicking things. No squirrels were harmed in the posting of this and in no way can this be duplicated without the expressed written permission of the commissioner's office.
  2. How long does a user have to be here before they get a "Sense of Humor" badge and how many posts are you from getting yours?
  3. Humor and sarcasm are never necessary, but they sure are funny and never against etiquette. Apparently, some found it offensive somehow. Very important life tip coming. Offense cannot be given. You have never heard anyone say "Standby, I am about to give you some offense". Many say "I take offense at this or that". Getting offended says more about the one who took offense that the supposed offender. Not good things either. It typically shows a lack of something. A sense of humor for example.

  5. This would be great if it the forum allows it.
  6. The AR-5RM is a mean black radio that no one needs for hunting or self-defense. The founding fathers could not foresee this dangerous radio being developed when they spoke of the right to bear AR-5RMs. You may be a law-abiding citizen with outstanding morals, but these items should be controlled so only criminals can have one. Crap, I was wearing the wrong hat when I read and posted. (Takes off NRA hat and puts on radio nerd hat). I like my AR-5RM. I just got one (well two) and I have been sitting around learning how to program it with Chirp and listening to local amateur repeaters. Sitting for my tech licenses on the 9th. Can't wait to hit the transmit button. My only complaint would be that Boofwang needs to change the color of the menu letters. It is fine to read indoors, but not outside in sunlight. They need white letters.

    GRMS Needed?

You should ask NOTARUBICON on YouTube. He loves these comments.
  8. Marine and patriot for sure. I am not arguing what information (too much) the government stores or collects (too much), just the fact that receiving something in the mail is considered stalking. Fear is a great weapon, as we can see in the world today. However, giving into fear is just self-defeating. I could also see that if some company/person X was combing the FCC ULS and sending you a copy of American Communist, that you would be rightfully upset, and it would cause me to climb a wall. However, if I received a notification in the mail about a public repeater that I/my family could take advantage of, it would not raise any alarm bells in me, quite the opposite. To me it's the same thing as the coupons I get in the mail from the car dealership I bought my truck from.
  9. I am starting to think that people need to toughen up if getting a letter/postcard in the mail feels like "stalking". Getting notification of a repeater to use in the area should be a great thing. If the recipient gets bent out of shape that would be a sign that they would not be the type of person that I would want to associate with much less go to in the case of an emergency.
