After we experienced the tragic consequences of Helene, and the eye-opening fragility of the communications grid in the WNC mountains in the aftermath of the storm, it made me want to be more connected to local emergency communications in my region. I discovered GMRS and have been investing in and learning about GMRS. The idea of being in a community of other hobbyists that share an interest in readiness is very appealing to me. I would like to be better prepared for next time, while hoping there never is a next time.
