  1. Good info, thank you. Correct, there is better radios for a little bit more. I'm looking at the Btech now. This one also has the GPS tracking. Still need to do my research (reviews) online on this radio. https://a.co/d/b4sRCcQ
  2. Looks like problems on the H9 release, i'll hold off on the purchase.
  3. I'm sure this has been asked a ton, but based on radios getting better every year with upgrades, what's the best handheld radio around $100 (good quality)? I like the Tidradio TD-H8 but may goto the TD-H9. TIDRADIO TD-H9 10W APRS GPS Bluetooth Ham GMRS Walkie-talkie – Tidradio https://share.google/DePuDrXP0cveiJhCk I like the GPS on this radio (deer hunting with family). Is all the extra bells and whistles needed, probably not. Are Tidradio's crap, should I go to something else? Looking for some ideas.... Edit - Maybe the Wouxun for double? https://www.buytwowayradios.com/wouxun-kg-q10g.html For a new guy getting into the hobby, what's a good starting radio?
  4. The town board called me yesterday, I do need a $150 permit. I was incorrect as listed above. I will post up pics and info as I go along on this project. The vehicle ferry to take you to and from the island starts out in May. I'll file the permit prior to going up and then meet up with the town board member and goto my property so he can flag the location of the tower. I have to be so far from the road and the property lines. Small world went to Admirals hockey game last night, they won in overtime, good game. No fights, kinda shocked at that....
  5. Thank you, appreciate it.
  6. LOL, just want the setup to be a quality setup. I've been somewhat lucky in life, management for over 20 years running steel plants & stamping plants. Island properties are in an irrevocable trust for my daughters. I appreciate the help from the people on this website. Lots of knowledge here.
  7. DXEngineering responded to my email, I'll go with the LMR-600..... Greeting Todd, Thanks for contacting DX Engineering. For the one of the top coax types with the least loss for UHF/VHF is LMR600. https://www.dxengineering.com/parts/tmv-lmr-600ultra You would need to build a custom cable here for the LMR 600. https://www.dxengineering.com/cableconfigurator/cabletype We do have our DXE-400MAX that would also suit that application. It's available in several premade cable assemblies or in a custom cable length. https://www.dxengineering.com/parts/dxe-400maxdx050
  8. I'll go through DXEngineering, they can build it custom, thank you for the info, I appreciate it.
  9. Looking to purchase 60 feet of quality coax cable (low signal loss) for this setup, price doesn't matter. LMR-400??? And info would be appreciated, thank you.
  10. They contacted me and provided links to the regulations. The tower will be under 50 feet (or close to 50 feet, height is might), it should be exempt as stated below. Towers and Antennae Facilities: Antenna towers and masts for cellular phone and other personal or business communications services may be authorized as a special land use by the Planning Commission. Antenna towers and masts erected and operated as a residential accessory use, and not more than fifty (50) feet in height as measured between the tower’s base at grade and its highest point erected, are exempt from the provisions of this Section. In considering such authorization, the Planning Commission shall apply the standards of Article 4: Site Plan Review, and the following standards: Article 6: Supplemental Site Development Standards Adopted: September 14,
  11. Correct, it will be a permanent structure. I'm not 100% at this time as I'm still waiting on answers. I'll post up once they get back to me.
  12. Thank you, I appreciate it. I may upgrade to a Retevis RT97L (25W) prior to installing the system on the island in the spring. I'm checking with the Bois Blanc township now on a permit. It looks like the permit is $150, I may need to draw up specs and location of the repeater and tower. I'll know more soon. Edit - My plan "B" if they turn me down. I also own property in Wisconsin on Washington Island (Southpoint Association). I don't see any GMRS repeaters on that island. If Bois Blanc turns me down, hopefully not, then I'll go through the same process on Washington Island. Not my video, just a quick overview of Washington Island.
  13. Tidradio H3, easy to program via bluetooth app on phone, easy for beginners.
  14. I own a couple of properties on Bois Blanc island and in the spring I will install a repeater on the island. I don't see any repeaters on the island or nearby through the repeater search on this website. My family and I will use the repeater but its open to the public. The system will run off of solar power. I'm still somewhat new to GMRS with setting up channel's and tones but my repeater and HT's are online and work perfect. My parents’ neighbor is a licensed electrician with extensive experience in solar energy systems, he will help with my solar setup. I own deer hunting property on the island, which includes a decent-sized hill, thats where the repeater will possibly go (pic below). I also own 3 properties on the east side by the coast guard chapel (Walkers Point). The Repeater ID arrived already programmed with my call sign (thank you, Repeater ID). I tested it, and it works perfectly. My repeater is a Retevis RT97S and the handheld radios are Tidradio TD-H8 Gen 3 (easy to program via bluetooth using Odmaster app). Any general info or ideas would be appreciated. Thank you. Todd https://youtube.com/shorts/0wEF56FZ_CY?si=YgiRJgi88oe9JD-R Not my video, just a quick overview of the island.....
