  1. I've replaced the mic and that seems to have cured the problem. Thank all of you who responded!
  2. Steve, The noise is still there and takes away from my voice clarity. I'm hoping that it is the microphone as I just ordered one today.
  3. When I key up the KG-1000G and just hold the key in I can hear a scratching kind of sound being transmitted to another receiver. SWRs are 1.01, I've replaced the coax and NMO mount, moved the mount and antenna to the rooftop of my truck, and replaced the data cable from the head unit to the transmitter as it had gotten mashed. The noise is still there. Any helpful suggestions would be..... well helpful. LOL! TIA
  4. Jones, It is a 2 meter machine. I'll take those suggestions, thanks.
  5. twiess3, Yeah I tried to do that with the HAM machine. I never got a response. I'm being told by a mutual friend that the machine is still up there but hasn't been operative for some time, a couple years at least. You're right about not wanting to cause problems.
  6. What were they asking for rent space? Did they want you to have liability insurance on the equipment? The building I'm looking at already has a HAM machine up there so that door has already been breached of putting any machine up there. I was just kind of wanting what kind of spiel to use to sell the idea. I had already told them it was for community betterment, ie, emergency use and preparedness.
  7. I'm wanting to put a repeater up in the area where I live, I can't put it up at my home. So I'm looking at putting a repeater up on a building nearby. Has anyone asked a building owner if they would allow you to install a repeater on their buildings rooftop? If so, how were you able to sell the owner or building manager on the idea?
  8. Radioguy, Nope no access to that. I think i'll just take them over to a place near me that repairs them. $80.00 diagnose/repair plus parts. Thanks everyone for their input.
  9. Radioguy, No the radio shuts down even before the self test is complete, I think. It literally comes on for just a couple seconds,, then shuts down. Both radios are exactly the same. Vx-2200 AG7H-50 both were flashed with 2.07 Firmware in 2011. Both radios are also Passports, if that makes a difference. I just read a couple of posts about this very issue on Radio Reference and the person ended up sending the radios into Motorola, he had 3 that were doing this. I'm just trying to ascertain that it wasn't something that I did.
  10. The power supply powers another 2200 just fine. I had just finished programming the unit prior to it's malfunctioning but another 2200 has the same programming and works fine. I had purchased 2 2200s from an Ebay seller. The first didn't transmit over 6.5 watts, right out of the box. This radio had been working fine. The problem started after I programmed it.
  11. Anyone have an idea what would be causing a VX-2200 to attempt to do a system self test and then shut down? After it does that, it will not power up at all, until the power leads are disconnected and reconnected, at which point it starts a system self test and shuts down again.
  12. Getting ready to put up a base station antenna using fence top rail. The mast will be 2 10' sections stacked onto a 2' section mounted to the house. The antenna I'm going to use is the DPD GMRS Verticle Outdoor Base Antenna. It weighs a whopping 1lb. Should I use guy wires or not. Should I use a different material for the mast? Suggestions please. Thanks Larry @ WRAK 287
  13. What would be a good price for new? I'm not into buying used, except on RARE occasions. What other radios would fit the guidelines I posted earlier? I just ran across the Boa Feng UV-50X2. Thoughts?
  14. Berkinet, I've actually considered getting HAM but my money supply is short because of prior commitments and toys so it's kind of on the back burner but I'll look at the G6. Thanks.
  15. Is it possible to program this radio for input and output tones for repeaters? Also is it possible to program multiple instances of say, channel 15, with different input and output tones? Where would I get the necessary cable/s and software to program the radio?
  16. Box Car, I only have about 10 to program in. If they weren't running split codes, I wouldn't bother with the UV-50X2, I'd just use my Midland MXT400. And as I have not attempted to use the repeaters in the Rocky Mountains before, I'm not sure which one I'll be able to hit. If I don't run into any trouble on the old mining roads in the mountains, I won't need any repeater. That's the true goal! LOL!
  17. Hey Berkinet, Thanks for the info. Is it possible to program the UV-50X1 with more GMRS channel configurations than just 30. The manual isn't quite clear enough for me on the programming of memory slots. What I'd like to be able to do is store into memory all of the repeaters that I come cross in my travels across the country, some of which are 2 CTCSS coded. I currently have a Midland MXT400, while I like that radio, I don't want a duplicate.
  18. Does anyone know if this radio accepts split codes and able to store them into memory? And whether or not you can Tx as well as Rx in the MURS band? I'm thinking so, just trying to make sure before I place an order.
  19. I'm considering putting up a GMRS base station and I'm looking for some helpful input as to what antenna to use. I'm considering using a magnetic mount mobile antenna on my steel guttering. What coax should I use RG-58 or RG-8?
  20. That radio isn't technically legal because it's dual band, right? I'm asking for a friend.......
  21. Hey Marc, What kind of wheeling do you do? My wife and I have a pair of Arctic Cat Wildcat 1000 X's.
  22. Hey Everyone, I've been a CB'er since Moby Dick was a minnow and learned of GMRS about 12 years ago. Just now getting deeper into it because I recently retired from EMS in Kansas City. I just bought a Midland MX400 to install in my Power Wagon. I've read some comments on here about Midland products, here's to hoping I have better luck. I'd like to know if there are any members that live close so I can put my radio to use. I'll be listening. WRAK287
