I have 3 of them, all work fine. I just make sure I take the battery off to charge it.

I wonder if Buddy is Ky Jr? I remember Ky Jr would come and stay there during the summers. I think he may have been a year or two older than me. I'm 49.

I grew up with his step son AJ. I used to hang out over at his house in MN all the time back in the 80's. Really nice guy. They had an indoor pool we would swim in all year.

Hey, by chance do you know of Ky Michaelson? He was huge in the amateur rocket scene, at least back in the day. I believe he has a few world records. He used to be called "Rocket Man."

I went to brand new HAM radio club meeting this weekend, and everyone stared at me when I walked in. I'm 49, and covered in tattoos. I was definitely at least 15 years younger than anyone else there.

I have 3 H3'S. I haven't updated the firmware. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Unless there is something specific that needs fixing, I'll just leave mine as is.

How do I change my username on here? I have tried fiddling with all the settings, and I just can't seem to be able to change it from my call sign.

Sorry, I totally forgot I posted this question last night, I was a little drunk. But, my thinking was that it might be very useful to some people who use their radios for work, or off-roading, or what not. I think especially for like farm work or something like that. I just remember that back in the day a lot CB radios had that, and think it would be a nice feature to have. Not sure I personally would ever really need to use it (maybe when I do search and rescue it could come in handy).

Just curious, but why don't GMRS mobile units have a PA option like some CB radios do?

The Walmart in my area doesn't use MURS, but I do hear some road construction crews using it from time to time. It's usually the "flaggers" that tell you to stop or go when working on a 2 lane road. I hear them chatting back and forth.

I live in Southern Colorado and go up to the mountains quite a bit. I chose the Retevis RA25 (same as the DB20G) because I can unlock it to do some HAM bands and MURS. That way in case of emergency, I have more options than just GMRS to try to contact someone. I don't have a HAM license, but in an emergency, I would like to be able to use it. I know it's not the end all be all in emergencies, but just being able to use the other bands just in case is good for piece of mind. I have all the repeaters that I can find in my area programmed in to the radio. Luckily, my Google Pixel 9 also does emergency satellite texting.

Alright, so I have a Retevis RA25 mounted in my Xterra. Right now I'm using an NMO mag mount MXT-A26 antenna. It works great for GMRS. I used to have the Nagoya UT-72G mag mount hooked up to a TD-H3. I seemed to be able to get a lot more reception on that set up, using both GMRS and HAM. With the UT-72G, I was able to get NOAA channel 5 in super clear, plus I think channels 4,3, and 1 a little bit. With the MXT-A26, I can only get NOAA channel 5, from the same spot. I know the MXT-A26 is tuned specifically for GMRS. My question is, should I get the Comet 2x4SRNMO antenna? I would like to be able to just screw it into the NMO mount and not switch out the whole thing. I'm not HAM licensed yet, but I like to listen. And also I would like to have it in case of emergency. Plus I probably will eventually get my HAM license.
